The Nuclear power station Kalinin Russian: КалининскаяАЭС is about 200 kilometers northwest of Moscow in the Tver Oblast in the proximity of the city Udomlya. Owner and operator of the nuclear power station is the national enterprise Rosenergoatom. The nuclear power station covers the majority of the electricity needs of the Twer region, and beyond that, some of the demands for Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Vladimir. In 2005 the nuclear power station fed 17.3 TWh into the grid. The six cooling towers that are 150 m tall each are visible from far away and were manufactured in 96 concrete sections each.
