[edit] Campus

The college buildings make use of high end technology labs with state of the art equipments. There is an online library,. The campuses and hostels are networked through wireless VPN connectivity. The University is among the few educational institution in the globe to introduce wireless connectivity in the campuses. The ten campuses are architecturally splendid.

The infrastructure includes:

  • Classroom : Air-conditioned multimedia classroom with wireless LCD projector facilitates an ideal learning environment. After becoming Deemed University (year 2005), KIIT has migrated most of its non_AC classroom to Centralized AC class rooms.
  • Library : The institute has an independent Library complex open round the clock. Students have access to ample stock of books and journals. Services provided to the users include, Current Awareness Service (CAS), Reference Service, Documentation Service, Reprographic Service, Digital Library and Web Library. Except Wi-Fi god knows who uses the above mentioned technologies. The wireless LAN is unsecured so any one can enter the KIIT network and can illegally access data. and With such high-end technologies being incorporated, campus networking at KIIT has only a few parallels in the globe among educational establishments and universities. Each student and faculty are provided with wireless laptops, which enables them to connect to the campus network and broadband internet from anywhere in the campus. KIIT has only 5 Mbit/s connection to be shared among all office computers and almost 2000 students. Internet in campus is pathetic. Many students in hostel don't use the KIIT provided internet as it is very slow. The firewall, which KIIT is using based on the key word filtering. Its the worst content filtering technique used in the world.

[edit] Student Activities

[edit] QUTOPIA

Qutopia is the quizzing society of KIIT-University. Established with the motto of ‘Quiz for Quiz's Sake’, the group claims to be a perfect haven for all the quizzers. Born out of a desire to learn more about the world and beyond, as well as an urge to share what we know, this group has its roots in the meetings that used to take place in the lawns of Block A of the Degree college - KITS, and was initially confined to a very small group; but now boasts of a rich community of both professional and rookie quizzers who meet every Saturday to feast on quizzing, currently, at the Student Activity Centre(SAC). This group is also maintained online through yahoo groups where the activity persists day in and day out.

‘Udghosh’ is the annual event of this society dedicated to the efforts of all the Ex-Kiitians who had setup the original quiz group of KIIT with the same name. The name 'Udghosh' was adopted for unanimous reasons of it having its roots in the Ancient Indian script of Sanskrit and also its apt meaning - that stands for 'the blowing of conch shell to declare the beginning of War'. Though this word was in much use in India during the prehistoric and medieval ages - due to the many conflicts that were so much a result of feud and hunger for territory - between various Kingdoms - to get more 'jewels' of territory and dignity in their 'crown' of Supremacy; the word ('Udghosh') itself was chosen for the Annual Quizzing event, for the simple reason that of its appeal and contextual meaning - that with the 'war' that goes on-stage - amongst the various dignified and feared teams, coming from all across, for the intention of basking in glory of being the Winners and walk away with the respect of their fellowmates, other challengers, the viewers and the newly 'Quiz converts'. Started on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti - 2nd October, 2006 (Tribute to Late Mahatma Gandhi, his birth day being on this day), the first edition of ‘Udghosh’ was one of its kind in the Eastern region of India and arguably the first of its kind in the region of cultural and Mineral wealth of Orissa. Starting a trend and having a die hard fan following, ‘Udghosh’ has been able to stand apart and create a niche of its own in the Quizzing community, the size of which can only grow with each Annual edition of the event. The consecutive years have seen remarkable growth in the number of Sponsors for the event and the thus, the amount of Prize being awarded to the 'Warriors' who fight away with the coveted 'Crowns' - that are the only and ultimate desire of each team's contention. In fact the underlying theme of 'Qutopia' is :- Once a Quizzer, Always a Quizzer.
