[edit] Speedy deletion of Krma (valley)
A tag has been placed on Krma (valley) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Wikiproject Slovenia
Hi:
please check out this page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/Slovenia. A wikiproject on Slovenia has been started nad I think it would be great to have you on board. If you feel like joining, please put your name on the list. Take care, Viator slovenicus (talk) 10:52, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Geopedia.si
As you have been editing articles about Slovenian settlements and adding coordinates to them, I'd like to tell you about Geopedia, a national open project offering coordinates, maps, and photos of various places in Slovenia. That's for the following reasons:
- a map of the whole settlement is shown
- the site provides much more data (the municipality, geocoordinates, altitude, area, etc.)
- a backlink to Wikipedia is provided
- the site is non-commercial
I think it would make much sense to include links to Geopedia either in the 'External links' section or in the infobox. See for yourself e.g. in Srgaši. --Eleassar my talk 10:21, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Alojz Rebula
Thanks for your contributions. Could you please add footnotes for the contents you've contributed (I'm planning to nominate it at the Did You Know project)? Thanks a lot. --Eleassar my talk 11:53, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
OK, have done so in text, though I had put the source in the references list before. By the way, your footnotes for the quotes at the begining of the text are not quite correct, the bit about Grandfather Karst is also from LIC ... I could not find it at all on the Kresnik reference you put in ... I changed 'antique' to 'ancient' though it is not so in the original translation in an attempt to make it clearer ... not sure the beginning of the article is the best place for the two quotes, the Grandfather Karst one does not make much sense to me in English (Sounds too much like Grandfather Frost (Dedek Mraz) or something and not like 'Praoče Kras' in the original ... someting along the lines of 'Wise Old Karst', 'Ageold Karst' or 'Father Ancient Karst' would be closer to the tone of the original. In any case I would move it). Regards Kaktus999 (talk) 08:25, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your input. I'll try to improve the article. Is it really best to say ancient? It sounds like old (star) not like related to the Antiquity (antičen) as the original says. »Praoče Kras je zaukazal dve tiranski ljubezni: na antičnem splavu boš rezal slovensko morje!« As for the grandfather, the Amebis dictionary offers following translations for 'praoče': ancestor; great-grandfather; primogenitor. I'll change to 'primogenitor' (you may correct it if this does not sound quite right, but of the suggestions listed above imo only the last one implies ancestry). I've moved the quotes to the section 'work' now. I hope it's ok. --Eleassar my talk 11:07, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- The nomination is listed here. Is it ok or do you think something else should be mentioned? --Eleassar my talk 11:37, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
The nomination is fine. As for the above ... these are the problems of direct translation. Antique when talking about objects (in this case the raft), at least in British English sounds more to something you would find in an antique shop (an antique chest, an antique table etc), though it literally could mean something from Antiquity. Ancient means really old and though you could say it about a haggered starlet we also say things like Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, ancient remains, ancient coins, ancient documents etc ... I would say ancient raft, not antique. With grandfathers and primogenitors it is again a question of getting the tone right rather than making a direct translation. Perhaps 'Ancestral Karst' ... 'Karst the Primogenitor' (that is the way round I would put it if you leave this) sounds slightly OTT. Anyway ... I realise this was obviously already translated by someone and it was just a thought about trying to make it clearer ... It was more of an 'eyesore' when it was right at the start of the article. Now you have moved it I wouldn't worry about it too much. Others may comment and have better ideas. Regards Kaktus999 (talk) 13:55, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- The article has been presented in the Did you know section on the Main Page. Thanks for your contribution and keep up the good work! --Eleassar my talk 19:53, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] dyk again
- ...that St Mark's church (pictured) in the small village of Vrba in Upper Carniola symbolises homeliness and safety to Slovenians? by Kaktus999 OK? Victuallers (talk) 23:01, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- Are you sure about the word "homeliness"? The word means "ugly" (derived from homely), not "related to your home". At least that's how I take it. Maybe you could use an alternative word so that it has a better meaning throughout the world. Royalbroil 05:01, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- I hadn't considered this but I think Americans use this phrase for peoples who are not so attractive. Is the word "patriotic"? ie pride in your home country? Meanwhile I'll take it out of the hook Victuallers (talk) 07:25, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
