[edit] Japanese language pages

Thanks for converting so many of the Japanese links to use the language icon. The actual icon to use for Japanese is not {{jp icon}} (which is a redirect), but {{ja icon}}. Thanks again. Neier 12:12, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Transgender warriors

I see you've been working through the Siberian ethnic groups, and that you keep bumping into Transgender Warriors references. I haven't got the book itself, but academic reviews on it are sceptical (even the journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies, which describes the book as a colonialist act of cultural appropriation in the service of pushing a particular western political perspective).

I typed "Transgender Warriors" into the search window, and wikipedia has dozens of references, most of them in ethnographic articles. If there is other evidence that there is some kind of an established transgender social category in the ethnic group I think third gender would be a better reference (and it keeps the citations within wikipedia). If the only reference is Transgender Warriors I think it can simply be removed, or removed to the talk page.

-- Ngio 13:24, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

But please keep in mind, though, that even the term third gender is incorrect in the case of the Ojibwa because a gender is describes as Animate and Inanimate, not Male and Female (which in the case of the Ojibwa, both are Animate gender, and "third gender" is also Animate... all one and the same). Because of this, I have reversed your edits in the Ojibwa article. I did look at the copy of the book in question and the citation is to a map within that book that simply states where Hermann Baumann recorded cases of Transgender Warriors... which I am almost sure he was just enumerating Ozaawindib, a very, very famous egwakwe, who was a warrior. And yes, even someone who is transgender, in Ojibwe, is also of the Animate gender. CJLippert 21:51, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, BTW, you can preview portions of the book in question at Google Books. CJLippert 14:17, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome

Hi, Kain Nihil, and welcome to WikiProject
Africa
!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to Africa. Here are some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve Africa-related articles, so if people ask for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, which you are welcome to participate.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign Africa topics.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project.

[edit] Election article edits

Please refrain from making ill informed and reckless claims of vandalism. I am not sure your motivations, but your unexplained blind reverts of valuable edits are not appropriate. You've already corrected your own mistake with the article DRE voting machine. If you do not, I will do so for the others. --Electiontechnology 15:42, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Liberia Geography

Thanks for the contributions you've been making to the article on Liberia! I appreciate your work in cleaning things up. I myself am not sure of the names of these mountain ranges -- if you have references that give them, please correct what is there! I was mainly aligning the information in the Mount Nimba, Mount Wuteve, and Liberia articles. The Mount Wuteve article is the source of "West Africa Mountains" and sounds a bit inauthentic to me. [edit] About vandalism

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made: You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you and keep up the good job. Ozalid 22:32, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

No, it's not a requirement and it wasn't exactly because of a specific reversion. It's just that sometimes newbies do test edits and they just don't realize the damage they are doing. In other cases people who do mean to harm wikipedia get to change their attitude when they realize that some people do care and that actions are taken. I left the message because I saw that you were doing several anti-vandalism reverts ([1] [2] [3] [4]) and that you are a relatively new user. But it's just a friendly suggestion... The only requirement here is that you have a good time. Happy editing! Ozalid 23:02, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sakhalin

Is English your native language?

Your sentence:

"The centreal eastern part were origanlly inhabitaed by the Oroks and the North by the Nivkhs as early as the Neolithic era (5000 BCE -100 CE)."
  • Spelling:
    • "central" NOT "centreal"
    • "originally" NOT "origanlly"
    • "inhabited" NOT "inhabitaed"
    • "central-eastern" NOT "central eastern"
    • "northern" NOT "North"
  • Word choice:
    • "were" is plural, meaning 'more than one [region]'
    • "was is singular, meaning 'one [region]'
  • Comma usage:
    • Need a comma after the first independent thought, or clause.

CORRECTION:

The central-eastern part of the island was originally inhabited by the Oroks, and the northern part by the Nivkhs, as early as the Neolithic era (5000 BCE-100 CE).[1]

It should also be in the "History" section, after the Neolithic Stone Age (8300 BCE).

A question is not an attack. It is a question.
  • Example of a question: Is English your native language?
  • Example of an attack: You are stupid.
I simply asked you a question, do not abuse and just throw around attack warning. Don't hide behind someone else if you are offended, dragging Monkeyzpop (talk · contribs) into your feelings. We have been exchanging direct messages for months now, and he has never complained. ~ WikiDon 00:53, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
PS: The reason that I asked you that question is, do to the article, Sakhalin, many of the contributors over the last three and half years that I have been working on it, have either been Japanese, Russian, or another language because they are working on Sakhalin I or Sakhalin II. So, if your were from one of these places, I was offering to HELP you. ~ WikiDon 01:03, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
I make mistakes too. But one sentence with so many made me think that I had a Japanese, Russian, other, person contributing in this case. Don't have such a thin-skin, you'll know when I am attacking. It won't be gray, it'll be black-and-white to everyone. ~ WikiDon 01:15, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Myself and WikiDon

Thanks for the defense, but WikiDon and I get along fine. I was mildly piqued by his remarks about my education, but once I realized who had written them, I realized it was indeed jovial. Sometimes it's hard to tell, I know. But I did not feel attacked. Thank you. Monkeyzpop 02:25, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chukchi Sea

And thank you for the encouragement. I'm glad people find those lonely lands and seas meaningful. I love those places. Mohonu 12:33, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for improvement. I heard Wikipedia Weekly too and was just curious if it would get any traction.--Lyonspen 20:51, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
