Kai Knudsen

Kai Birger Knudsen (born 25 June 1903 in Vardø, died 3 March 1977) was a Norwegian and politician for the Labour Party.
As an elected politician he served in the position of deputy representative to the Norwegian Parliament from the Market towns of Telemark and Aust-Agder counties during the term 1945–1949. On the local level he was mayor of Notodden from 1945 to 1946.
Knudsen graduated with the cand.jur. degree in 1926, and worked as an audit, judge and lawyer. From 1948 he worked as a secretary for the Prime Minister. During the cabinet Torp Knudsen became acting Minister of Justice and the Police from 1952 to 1954. He was then appointed Minister of Defence from 1954 to the cabinet change in 1955. In the new third cabinet Gerhardsen Knudsen was appointed state secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, but left in late 1955.
He was then district stipendiary magistrate (sorenskriver) in Indre Follo from 1955 to 1973.
