K. Y. Lim
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
K.Y. Lim is a Philippines-born producer of low-budget action movies.
In the early 1980s, under the Silver Star Film Company banner, Lim was a prolific producer of Filipino Z-movie actioners, characterized by nonsensical screenplays, overall inept execution and bad dubbing. Many of the Silver Star films were directed by Teddy Page (Teddy Chiu) and John Gale (director) (Jun Gallardo). Most of them featured the same recurring set of actors, Romano Kristoff, Mike Monty, Bruce Baron, James Gaines, Mike Cohen, Ken Watanabe (not the Watanabe from The Last Samurai), Ann Milhench, and Gwendolyn Hung. Bit-part actor Ronnie Patterson also showed up in many of the early 80's Silver Star productions. Former Spaghetti Western and peplum stars Richard Harrison and Gordon Mitchell also acted in a few films for Lim.
Most of the Silver Star films, like Fireback, Intrusion Cambodia AKA Rescue Team, Slash and Ninja's Force, have fallen into complete obscurity, if not for bad movie enthusiasts and Richard Harrison completists, who have made some of them into minor cult items.
At the turn of the 90's, Lim relocated to the United States, where he continues as a producer of low-budget cinema. His 1997 film Future War was featured in a 1999 episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
