Kulakkatil Geevarghese (K. G.) George (b. at Changanacherry in Kottayam, 1946) is a Malayalam film director. George is one of the most celebrated film makers of kerala who modernised the Malayalam cinema in the seventies. He is a graduate in film direction from the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India.
His first film was Swapnadnam, a film with freudian undertones.
The film which really marked him as an outstanding director was Kolangal. This was the cinematic adaptation of PJ antonys novel "Oru Gramathinte aatmavu.Careful observation underlies the portrayal of a rustic village and the snapshots of the villagers. Another well known movie is Yavanika, an artistically made detective thriller. Most of his movies are realistic and away from clichés. K. G. George was completely different in the way he selected plots and way it was treated. Many of K. G. George's movies will disturb the audience by their straightforward and uncompromising exposal of uncomfortable truths - corruption and decadence in the society around him. Examples are Mattoral and Irakal.
