[edit] History
The original construction permit for a low-power station on channel 28 in Yuma was granted on October 9, 1997 to Sara Diaz Warren. The station was assigned the callsign K28FM, and was granted its initial license on November 27, 2000. In June 2001, Sara Diaz Warren sold the station to Broadcast Group, Ltd. of El Paso, Texas.
[edit] Programming
K28FM has been an affiliate of Mas Musica, a repeater for Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico full-service station XHILA-TV 66 and an affiliate of La Familia Network (LFN), a Spanish-language family-oriented broadcast television network. From late September 2006, the station was an affiliate of MTV Tr3s, a Latino-focused music channel. Viacom had acquired the Mas Musica network and repackaged it as MTV Tr3s in late September 2006. As of February 2007, K28FM was an affiliate of Retro Television Network, which is available "free-to-air".
[edit] Digital television
In September 2006, K28FM was identified as a "singleton applicant" for a companion digital LPTV signal on UHF channel 17 [1]. A singleton applicant is one whose application for a construction permit has no competition from nearby applications on the same or adjacent channels. As a singleton applicant, the station is likely to be granted a construction permit.
