[edit] Moving article
Why was this article moved to Koichi Yamadera when the WP:MOS-JA clearly states it should be at Kōichi Yamadera? ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:47, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- You are right Nihonjoe, it shouldn't have been moved. I'd move it back myself if not for the flak I'd get from my oh-so-charming wiki-stalkers. Evan1975 05:16, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
"Spelling, including macron usage, of the name of a modern figure should adhere to the following, in order of preference:
1. Use the official trade name if available in English/Latin alphabet; 2. Use the form found in a dictionary entry from a generally-accepted English dictionary; 3. Use the form publicly used on behalf of the person in the English-speaking world; 4. Use the form publicly used on behalf of the person in any other popular Latin-alphabet-using language (French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, and Dutch, or variations); or 5. If none of the above is available, use the macronned form.
"
If you want, I can get proof that his trade name = Koichi Yamadera. WhisperToMe 05:11, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
http://www.cowboybebop.org/english/session/first/index.html - This archive of the official CB site = Koichi Yamadera WhisperToMe 05:19, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Also, see on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s?ie=UTF8&index=dvd-uk&field-keywords=Koichi%20Yamadera&page=1 WhisperToMe 05:22, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Also, Nihonjoe, it's a deja vu: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Nihonjoe&diff=61301584&oldid=61301261 WhisperToMe 05:28, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- Toshiro Mifune is listed as Toshirō Mifune. Anyhow, I don't really care that much about this issue enough to argue about it. Evan1975 05:30, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
According to the summary Patrick Schwemmer moved Mifune on April 13[1] (Rationale: moved Toshiro Mifune to Toshirō Mifune over redirect: I feel the distinction between long and short vowels is crucial in Japanese, and English article titles should reflect this difference.). I moved it back today :) WhisperToMe 06:04, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I wish you had put that move up for discussion. It's been many years, but I know that some of his movies listed him as Toshirô Mifune (yes, that is a circumflex, not a macron). Bendono 06:50, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- 1. I would like to know what to move it to first - since you found the "Toshirou Mifune"
-
2. Yamadera does not have to explicitly state "I want my name to be romanized like this" in order for the official romanizations to count.
Behalf is defined by Merriam-Webster as http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Behalf : "A body of opinion favors in with the “interest, benefit” sense of behalf and on with the “support, defense” sense. This distinction has been observed by some writers but overall has never had a sound basis in actual usage. In current British use, on behalf (of) has replaced in behalf (of); both are still used in American English, but the distinction is frequently not observed." WhisperToMe 20:22, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
So, does this mean the discussion is closed? If so, I will move the page back in three days. WhisperToMe 04:46, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- No, it is most certainly not. There are several users who believe the macronned form should be kept and have given excellent arguments, see the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles), for example. ···巌流? · Talk to Ganryuu 08:20, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- In that case, all I got from my last posting (Yes, I made a counterargument) was "I think you're addressing User:DivineLady, not me. -- Hoary 01:49, 11 May 2007 (UTC)" - I think we need to discuss the word "behalf," because, Ganryuu, their arguments lie entirely on the usage of "behalf." WhisperToMe 06:59, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

- The macron usage seems to be a good compromise for romanizing issues such as this. Some people will want to spell it "Koichi", "Kouichi", or <shudder> "Kooichi". And you can find these spellings in many places as well. Evan1975 04:21, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New voice role
Please add that he started this month the much awaited role of Kenshiro Kasumi, the uncle of Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star's hero of the same name in it's prequel anime, Souten no Ken.
[edit] Pokemon Movie 10?
Any word on who, if anyone, he plays in Dialga VS Palkia VS Darkrai?
- He voices Baron Alberto. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 11:04, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] RfC: 15kb list of titles?
I've called an RFC over this question of whether some 75% of this article should comprise a bare list of titles on which this actor has worked. In my opinion such a list is quite unnecessary. Only his most significant work needs to be recorded, not for instance every single film in which he has dubbed a voice. --TS 14:57, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- It's highly unlikely this article lists everything he's ever done, given the prolific nature of this voice actor. Given that (far more than regular actors) people interested in anime tend to follow specific actors and want to know what else they've been in, I see no reason to get rid of this list, especially as it helps in locating specific titles. I agree that more prose information needs to be added to the article. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:40, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that there doesn't seem to be any real reason to get rid of the list. It's not irrelevant information. The Japanese wikipedia page has even more data. However I admit being biased towards the opinion that Wikipedia should have more information rather than less, generally. BilabialBoxing (talk) 06:57, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- There's only two references listed for this article. Is every item in the lists supported by those two references? If so, there's no reason to delete them. Cla68 (talk) 07:01, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- If they're not supported by references, what are they doing in the article? --TS 13:06, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

How about this? First we reference everything we can from any available reliable sources. We remove those items that aren't yet referenced, moving them to this talk page if desired. When a given item becomes reliably sourced, it goes into the article. --TS 14:56, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- Why? Just because it's policy? What do you think this is? Wikipedia?...oh...wait... ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:37, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'll work on sourcing it. It may take a few days. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:55, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Unsourced parts (so far)
These can be added back to the main page after sources have been found. I've made a good start on it. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 10:39, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
