Kébec [keˈbɛk] in Algonquian means "place where the river narrows".
Firstly the name was Stadaconé but the native Indians referred to it as Kébec.
The frenchman Samuel de Champlain founded the settlement Québec in 1608 and recorded the word Kébec for the first time.
