Jutta Rabe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jutta Rabe is a German journalist and the current deputy chairman of the Europe section of the German Federation of Journalists, Berlin chapter.[1]

She worked as a freelancer for the German TV-magazine Spiegel-TV for a number of years[2], as well as for Focus TV, ZDF, ARTE and NDR.

Her book, Die Estonia: Tragödie eines Schiffsuntergangs (ISBN 3-7688-1267-7, ISBN 3-7688-1460-2), about the alleged cover-up of the true cause of the 1994 M/S Estonia passenger ferry disaster, was made into the 2003 film Baltic Storm.

In the summer of 2000, Sweden issued an arrest warrant against Rabe for violating the sanctity of the shipwreck, in violation of the Estonia Agreement of 1995, barring her from entering Sweden or risk prosecution.[2]

In March 2006, the Estonian prosecutor Margus Kurm published a report from his investigation which reached conclusions that despite the fact that there are many discrepancies and MV Estonia was used to transport military equipment on at least two occasions, there are no evidence that any military equipment was on board when Estonia sank.[3]

In August 2006, the arrest warrant was dismissed by prosecutor Ronnie Jacobsen and new investigations into the issues around the case of Estonia were started.[citation needed]

In May 2008, two independent studies, commissioned by the Swedish government, came to a conclusion that "Altogether the results of the analysis carried out show a similar sinking sequence to the one worked out already by the official investigation after the accident." [4] [5]
