[edit] Artist

Justin is a very important a rtist right now and works extensively with notable celebrities such as Susan Polgar and her Foundation as her full time designer and artist and has shown works on an international level, and was recently featured on ChessBase, which gets 1,000 submissions per day to be published. The artist got the acceptance and backing of Frederic Friedel, a well known chess marketer and author and he has sold paintings for as much as $10,000. I am not sure how to present all the facts and notability of this great man, but he isnt hugely popular but has done enough to get the praise he deserves. I wish to have him on here and maintain this for him and am willing to make whatever changes that are neccessary to keep him on here. If you need further proof he deserves to be on here, please email me. Thanks for your time and keep up a wonderful encyclopedia!!, Mike Retla.

[edit] Copy Editing

This will need some major work--there are POV issues, some flamboyant wording and formatting. I've started the process, but I'm technically on a wikibreak so I'm not going to do much right now. Some other help would be useful in tightening this up (and I'm thinking the principle author of the article should step back for a while during this process). Freshacconci 18:58, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

A great deal of it is original research, or at least reads that way. I've tagged the article with an "Inappropriate tone" tag until this can be fixed. Freshacconci 19:04, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

    • Thanks Bucketofg for accepting this artist. I really appreicate it. Hi Freshacconci, i will take a step back and let others fix the article, but if anyone needs dates, pictures, or other sources to make the neutrality more valid, let me know. Also, thanks Tyrenius for all the great organization in the article. I truly appreciate all the help (: --Michael144 11:10, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I also did not finish the timeline area as it only goes up to 1989. Should i add more information, or email the rest of the information to someone? Thanks, Mike. --Michael144 11:13, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Neutrality

This article consistently states the editor's interpretation, e.g.:

The bright and bold disposition are some of the hallmarks of Jenkins’ style and creates a cheerfully independent invitation into the artists surreal and inventive interpretation of the world and universe.

All of this material needs to be cut. It reads like an essay, not a factual report. Tyrenius 02:52, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Career highlights

This needs to be merged into the Life and career section, not left as bullet points. Some of the items need dates. Tyrenius 06:27, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

The preliminary edit I just did only removed the most obvious fluff, but has not yet reorganized the material. DGG 11:17, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I've integrated this section into the main text, but these two events need the date, so they're stored here for the time being:

  • Best in Show' at the New York City Flushing Artist's Exhibition at St. John's University Chung Cheng Gallery where over 50 artist's exhibited with over 100 works on display.
  • He was a United States representative in the Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy.
    • 2001 --Michael144 13:14, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I also can get the acceptance letter from the scientific committee for the bienalle. Should i get it and scan it in or have the artist send it? Thanks, Mike --Michael144 13:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Still to do

Any relevant info needs to be extracted from the sections "Featured stories and publications" and "Sources", and the sources then turned into inline citations per WP:CITE. Tyrenius 00:15, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Accuracy of this article in question

The correction made in this edit [1] plus the fact that Polgar was not the World Chess Champion, but the Women's World Chess Champion (a different thing), indicates that there may be other cases where the writing is less precise than desirable. Tyrenius 06:15, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

    • Hi Tyrenius, in my haste in getting the article ready i placed World Champion instead of the more selective Women's World Champion. "Former World Chess Champion" is a broad interpretation, but i apologize for this oversight as i wrote the article. Everything else should be accurate.

Thanks , Mike.--Michael144 13:12, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Featured Stories and Publications

We should move what is attributable to references and cut the fluff if everybody working on this agrees. AlfPhotoman 15:50, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

    • Hi Alf, everything in this section has a resource actually. --Michael144 18:01, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I also want to point out after reviewing several artists biography type pages, that instead of cutting this down to a bare minimum of facts and important info, perhaps we should include section on the artist's style, and some more in depth and interesting facts about his life to make the article somewhat interesting and engaging. This is headed for a wikistub like feel. --Michael144 18:01, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
The point is that this is not supposed to be an advert for an artist, nor do we include anything that is not attributable to a second party source. This article is not supposed to be a critique of an artists work. AlfPhotoman 18:16, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New Pictures for Article

Hi everyone, i think we should add this to the article. This is the work of art without the frame in the mat that was signed by all the players at the 2006 Mayors Cup Tournament in New York City. Mayor Bloomberg was supposed to attnd the event but sent the New York City athletic commissioner Ken Podziba instead.

This will be auctioned off at gottahaveit.com sometime in 2007 with a minimum bid starting at $1,000. There will be an estimated 25,000 bidders participating in the auction. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.163.162.221 (talk • contribs). (Large text, italicised for clarity, inserted into the middle of the existing post by the anon editor. Tyrenius 03:10, 20 March 2007 (UTC))
    • Signatures on the mat are reigning 2006 United States Champion Grandmaster Alexander Onischuk and co-winner of the 2005 United States Championships Grandmaster Alexander Stipunsky. Also participating (event already took place - this was pasted from the press release) will be the 2006 World Chess Olympiad bronze medalist Grandmaster Ildar Ibragimov, the USCF and FIDE #1-ranked player in the U.S. Grandmaster Gata Kamsky and 1990 & 1998 World Chess Olympiad silver medalist Grandmaster Boris Gulko.

Thanks, Mike --Michael144 23:30, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I cut that about the auction. It goes w/o saying that artists sell their work; it would be of interest if he didn't. The status of an unsold work does not ad to the article. As it was it served as an ad.

[edit] Information from sources

Regarding this edit, I suggest you use relevant facts from the article, then use the article as a source by referencing it with an inline citation. This goes for other press mentions also. Tyrenius 08:01, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Surrealism

I removed the description of the the artist as a Surrealist. This is generally an art historical term and is applied to historical artists, not contemporary. The artist can be described as working in a style similar to, or inspired by, or influenced by, Surrealism, but labelling him as a Surrealist is confusing for the general reader (i.e. a student doing a report on Surrealism may list this artist alongside Dali et al).
