Justin Thaler

Justin Thaler (born May 26, 1976) is an American award winning screenwriter, film, commercial and music video director. He is noted for his inventive visual style and manipulation of mise en scène. He has lived in Florida, Connecticut, California, Illinois, South Carolina, Italy, and Egypt.

Justin Thaler was born in Orlando, Florida. His career as a filmmaker began on commercial sets in Northern California when at a young age he would film behind the scenes footage for various production companies with clients such as Hallmark and Ford Motor Company. He soon began creating various live music videos for bands like NOFX, Earth Crisis, Green Day, Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, The Champions, and In/Humanity. He served as a bassist for the Charleston, SC band's Status Quo, Turmoil & the Chicago, IL band Sundoze.
The style of his videos were both unique and varied and often culled from the Cinema of Transgression. He went on to direct the video for the Grammy Award winning band Liquid Soul for their take on a Dizzy Gillespie classic "Salt Peanuts". The collaboration proved successful and the video was shown on VH1, Much Music, NFL Half Time Show, and various outlets such as Rollingstone.com.
Other artists who have collaborated with Thaler on occasion include The Hallow, Much The Same, First Class, Dick Prall, Marty Casey & Lovehammers and The Frantic. Thaler has also created television commercials, short films and series of oil pantings. He is a member of the "Rural Infiltration" a collective of artists whose work challenges the mainstream.

Thaler has done many music videos and film projects. He recently finished co-writing, The People In-Between, a first collaboration with screenwriter / artist BROOKSY ( whose art has appeared in The San Francisco Guardian, City Lights Bookstore, and on two featured lines of Nobyl Skateboards ) for a feature film to be directed by Thaler based on their time in Charleston South Carolina. His videos utilize many of the image manipulation techniques that he has experimented with in his short films such as Bohemian Logic. The style of Thaler's music videos often relies on videography and camera tricks which play with frames of reference. He has worked with Red Star Studios, Collective Films, Eight Ball Films, Spots BME, Red Car, I^3, Disney Motion Picture Studios, Touchstone Pictures, Hughes Entertainment, Stock Yard Films, and Cinelease Inc Motion Picture Rentals. John Thaler, his brother, is also an accomplished Skateboarder & renowned Photographer and has won various awards for his work.
