[edit] Gameplay
Three teams of two competed on the show, mainly a young child and his/her mother (or on some occasions, their father). The object of the game was to see how well they knew each other by matching answers to various questions. The team with the most points would be the day's winners.
[edit] Question Round 1
The parents were secluded off stage while the children answered questions given to them by the hosts. Early on in the run, they would choose from one of five categories, ie. "Monkey business" or "School Days", while later in the run saw specific question already assigned to each team. Each host would alternate between the players in two cycles. Afterwards, the parents would come back and they would be given the same questions to see if they could match the answers their children gave. A correct match on the first question earned 10, on the second, 15.
[edit] The Bake-Off
This segment featured the children completing a given recipe within 60 seconds. They were given all the basic ingredients and were allowed to use whatever they wanted in their creations (in the past, some even added ketchup to their concoctions). The things the children made would come into play later.
[edit] Question Round 2
While the children were off stage completing their recipes, the parents took part in another round of questions - a reversal of Question Round 1. After the two cycles were complete, the children returned to their partners and tried to match the answers that the parents gave. Correct matches in this round were worth 20 points for the first question, and 25 points for the second question.
[edit] The Taste Test
This part of the game featured the parents while the children were taken to another part of the stage. The creations each child made in the Bake-Off segment were placed in front of the parent (each had 3 plates with the recipes on them - marked 1, 2 and 3 corresponding to one of the recipes each child made). They had 30 seconds to taste each of the three and then decide which one they thought their child made by placing a numbered sign (later ping pong paddles) on the desk in front of them. Then once asked, the parent would hold up their choice and in a split-screen the child would hold up a sign with the number of the one they made. A correct match was worth 50 points.
[edit] Bonus Round
The day's winner(s) (which was possible, all ties resulted in the tied teams advancing) spun a 16 section wheel, and whatever segment it landed on was the prize they would win. The grand prize was a trip for four to Walt Disney World, which was the one prize many of the children wanted, was featured on four slots on the wheel (later three). In the case of twins playing, each child would spin once. If the first spin landed on the Disney World trip, the second spin would be voided.
[edit] Parting Gifts
All children in later seasons received a one week trip to Camp Onandaga. Episodes currently playing feature Sunbeam barebecue grills as a prize awarded to winners.
[edit] Scoreboards
Just Like Mom used Ferranti-Packer scoreboards which would later be used on It's Alive game show skits and also on YTV's late 90s game show, Uh-Oh!.
