[edit] Story
The player controls one of two hunters on Site B. The player has to find Ian and Sarah, who are the only ones who can get them off the island.
The first level takes place in the jungle. The player must fend off hordes of Velociraptors in an abandoned complex. After a while, another man will tell the player how to get to Ian and Sarah, but is then killed by a pack of Dilophosaurus, which the player must then fight. Once all the dilophosaurs are defeated, the player escapes from the complex and has the choice of saving a Triceratops that is being attacked by a group of raptors. Saving the triceratops brings the player directly to a stegosaur carcass; failing makes the car flip over, and the player must then fight off a pack of raptors. After reaching the stegosaur carcass, the player fights a large group of Compsognathus and raptors, and is then immediately confronted by a female Tyrannosaurus rex, the boss of the jungle level. The tyrannosaur chases the player through the mist for several minutes before running aheas and coming face to face with the player in front of another building. Weak points on the tyrannosaur(and all other bosses, as well) are indicated by yellow circles that become redder and redder until the boss attacks. Hitting all the circles prevents attacks and inflicts great damage.
The second level takes place in a game trail, where the other dinosaurs roam. The player(s) have to shoot sauropods in order to escape the lake area. They are attacked by sauropods, as they leave the Lakeside, and get to optionally kill a Dilophosaurus. After shooting the sauropods, the player can either shoot a final sauropod in the anus as it is defecating. If the player fails, they become trapped in a mud hole and must fend off a pack of raptors; if the player succeeds, they immediately progress to what appears to be a dry river. More raptors attack on this stretch of land, including bright green raptors which take three times as many hits as normal raptors. Near the end of the riverbed, another man appears on a motorcycle, being chased by a few raptors. If the player saves him, he gives the player an item; if not, his motorcycle crashes and bounces towards the player. The player can deflect the bike with bullets. Approaching an old building, the player is confronted with a herd of Pachycephalosaurus, which must be shot or else they ram the player. After killing these herbivores, the player goes along a dock, fending off more raptors that attack from the cliff above. After a short time, the game goes into a cinematic, showing a raptor jumping onto the dock from a boat. Suddenly, a gigantic crocodile lunges at the raptor, destroying part of the dock and killing the raptor at the same time. This initiates the game's second boss battle, highly reminiscent of Jaws. Shooting at the crocodile while it is underwater is essentially useless, as the water absorbs the impact of the bullets. The battle proceeds until the boss is very low on health. It appears to retreat, but will suddenly lunge out of the water and onto the dock, with one last target right in the dead center of its mouth. Hitting this will finally kill it, and it falls back into the lake.
The third level takes place inside what appears to be a recreation of the visitor center from the first film. After a brief cinematic showing models of a tyrannosaurus and an herbivore, the players are attacked by raptors yet again. They must fight their way up the stairs to the upper level, shooting falling pterosaur models to avoid getting hurt, and saving a man from a raptor, and a second from a pack of compys. The player then sees several raptors trapped in another room through glass windows, but they will escape and attack the player if the door isn't locked. The player must remember a code for the electronic lock on the door in order to keep the raptors contained. If the player fails, the raptors escape. Either way, the player will escape down a hall and has to shoot the controls on several descending gates. If even one is missed, the player must fight the raptors. If either all the gates are passed or if the raptors are killed, the player proceeds to the outer area of visitor center roof.
The fourth level takes place first on the visitor center roof and then inside a dome nearby. The very first thing the player must do in this level is shoot a cable across to the dome. If the player misses, they must fight a group of raptors coming out of air vents. Either way, the player will zip-line their way to the dome. However, the player becomes stranded halfway through and is attacked by a flock of Pteranodons. After the pterosaurs are killed, the players continue to the dome, where they fight more raptors until they suddenly see Ian and Sarah with the baby tyrannosaur from the film. Both of them run because of an approaching "chameleon-type" dinosaur, the level's boss. The dinosaur fades in and out of view effortlessly with camouflage abilities. The player must shoot the boss numerous times until getting to the upper levels of the dome, where the dinosaur will continue to attack. While trying to get into an elevator, the player must shoot a conveniently placed raptor. A brief cinematic begins inside the elevator, in which Sarah tends to the baby rex's injured leg. The elevator suddenly breaks down and the door opens, revealing the boss for the final confrontation. After killing the boss, the level ends.
The fifth and final level takes place first in the trailers and then in a worker village. The players begin outside the trailers and must shoot a pack of compys that come out from under the trailers. Once this is finished, a cinematic inside the trailer begins. Ian and Sarah are healing the baby rex when, suddenly, a few raptors show up! After the first wave is killed, the player's screen turns to see a raptor attacking the baby rex; if the baby is accidentally shot, the player loses a life. Another cinematic begins, and the tyrannosaur parents attack the trailer like they did in the film. The player must shoot targets on debris so that they won't get hurt. After a short time, the player escapes to the car outside, and the father rex takes the baby rex in its mouth while the mother chases after the player. A boss battle begins not unlike the battle in the first level. The catch is that, this time, it is very dark, and the player must be aiming at the female rex to see her. After shooting the mother rex and taking down all of her health, the rex will collapse and let out a call: she's calling her mate! The father rex soon makes his appearance. This is the very last boss battle of the game. After shooting the rex for a while, the camera shows some of the hunters from before flagging the player down and trying to distract the rex. The player veers to the right and looks back as the male rex charges at the hunters. A moment later, another hunter runs out of a building, firing his gun, and the rex bursts through. It stops to look at the player, and then sees two old cars nearby. Shooting the target on the rex's mouth when it appears will keep it from hurling the cars at the player with its mouth. If not, the player must shoot targets on the cars to deflect them. The player then escapes down an alley of the village, but comes to a dead end. The camera turns back around to see that the male rex has the player cornered. The final confrontation begins. After shooting the father rex for a while, the hunter from before appears on top of a building to the player's right, shooting at the tyrannosaur. The tyrannosaur then eats the hunter, which actually heals it. When the tyrannosaur's health is critical, it appears to leave. One of the players says, "It's too quiet." Suddenly, the tyrannosaur explodes from a building directly across from the player in one last charge. The final target appears. Shooting this target wins the game. The player is then rescued via helicopter.
[edit] Dinosaurs Featured
Numerous dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals are seen in the game:
- Velociraptor, appearing in several varieties:
- Brown-orange raptors, "tiger" raptors, and brown raptors, which are the basic enemey throughout the game. They only take one hit each.
- "Alpha" raptors, which only appear in two instances (atop a hill in the jungle and standing up high in the visitor center), which serve somewhat like a "mini-boss" and must be shot several times to be killed, or else more raptors will come
- "Zombie" raptors are bright green raptors that appear rarely, they must be shot three times before dying
- Triceratops: This dinosaur is only seen in the jungle area.
- Dilophosaurus: Like in the original film, the dilophosaurs in the game spit poison, have frills, and are much smaller than their real-life counterparts. They are only seen in the jungle area, except for one harmless infant that runs across the sauropod area in the lake area.
- Stegosaurus: Living stegosaurs as well as a carcass of one are seen in the jungle. Stegosaurs are also seen in a pre-game cinematic.
- Compsognathus: Little green dinosaurs that attack in large numbers, they are very hard to hit but only take one shot each. They are seen in the jungle, the visitor center, and a flock also attacks from under the trailers near the end.
- Tyrannosaurus rex: Both male and female tyrannosaurs appear in the game. A female tyrannosaur is the boss of the first level, and a pair appear as joint-bosses in the very last level, with the male being the very last boss.
- Purple birds: A flock of these are seen during the boss battle in the first level.
- Parasaurolophus: Some of these hadrosaurs appear in cinematics.
- Gallimimus: Some of these fast-running dinosaurs appear in cinematics.
- Hadrosaur: One of these appears in a cinematic at the very beginning of the second level. It could possibly be Anatotitan, which supposedly appeared in the film.
- Apatosaurus which poops on the car in the river area.
- Mamenchisaurus: Several of these attack the players in the river area and serve as mini-bosses.
- Pachycephalosaurus: These aggressive herbivores appear only on the game trail. They take several shots to kill and attack by ramming their heads.
- Deinosuchus: A gigantic crocodillian that serves as the boss of the game trail level
- Pteranodon: These flying reptiles attack the player. Of note is that the species is, in fact, P. sternbergi and not P. longiceps like in the film.
- Rhamphorhynchus: A few specimens of this small pterosaur can be seen during the pteranodon fight.
- Carnotaurus: This theropod serves as the boss of the fourth level. Like in the novel by Michael Crichton, the carnotaur in the game has chameleon-like camouflage, but much more advanced. It also has chameleon-like eyes.
