Jurhum (also Banu Jurhum) was a Qahtani tribe in the Arabian peninsula. According to Islamic history, the Jurhum are notable as the tribe which encountered Hagar and her son Ishmael in the then barren valley now called Mecca. Hagar and Ishmael found a spring - the Zamzam well - which the Jurhum wanted to drink from.
The Jurhum settled in that area and became custodians of the Kaaba, the holy sanctuary rebuilt by Ishmael and his father Abraham and revered as a pilgrimage site. The Jurhum did not strictly adhere to the pilgrimage rituals and were subsequently overthrown by the Khuza'ah tribe. In response, the Jurhum collected the treasures dedicated to the Kaaba and destroyed the Zamzam well so nobody would find it. The Jurhum then left Mecca.
