Talk:Jung Mo Sung
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I would like to contest the speedy deletion of the article "Jung Mo Sung." Sung is theologian of increasing importance to those concerned with liberation theology in the United States.
He is very well known in Brazil and the rest of Latin America, where he works and publishes in all sorts of mainstream and academic media, but his limited works in English have prevented him from becoming so in the United States.
This is changing; one text and one article have been published in English this year alone, adding to those already in English, and I am told that more are on the way.
He has published more than a dozen books and hundreds of articles.
He is discussed in an important article in a prestigious academic journal concerning the state of moral theology: "Moral Theology in Latin America" by Dean Brackey and Thomas Schubeck in Theological Studies (March 2002, volume 63, issue 1).
He is featured in two books by Ivan Petrella: 26 references in The Future of Liberation Theology (SCM Press, 2006) and an edited volume of articles (one of which is Sung's) entitled Latin American Liberation Theology: The Next Generation (Orbis Books, 2005).
The latter volume, Petrella states, "opens with Jung Mo Sung, the most prolific next-generation voice within mainstream contemporary Latin American liberation theology" (p. xvi).
Please retain the article on Jung Mo Sung.
Additional statement in favor of keeping this article
The evidence is clear - any advanced library in the social sciences and in theology, any real student of Latin American studies with a knowledge of liberation theology will tell you that this author is one of the most important and most often quoted liberation theologians from Latin America.
I updated the bibliography of the article and did some minor editing as well —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arno.tausch (talk • contribs) 09:01, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
