June 5: Ascension Thursday in Eastern Christianity (2008); World Environment Day; Father's Day and Constitution Day in Denmark 1305 – Raymond Bertrand de Got became Pope Clement V, succeeding Pope Benedict XI who died one year earlier. 1798 – In the Battle of New Ross, British forces prevented the United Irishmen from spreading the Irish Rebellion into Munster. 1849 – A new constitution was introduced in Denmark, establishing a constitutional monarchy and the Rigsdag, a bicameral parliament consisting of the Landsting and the Folketing. 1967 – The Six-Day War began with an Israeli Air Force preemptive strike that destroyed about 450 total aircraft of the Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian Air Forces on the ground. 1968 – Palestinian immigrant Sirhan Sirhan mortally shot U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy (pictured) inside the kitchen pantry of The Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, an event that has spawned a variety of conspiracy theories. Did the Allies enter Rome on June 5th or June 4th?

It did happen in 1741 but the June 5th date is only supported by bad sources as far as I could tell. Other possible dates: June 15th (log entry by the captain for that day as told by a 5th grade student), June 8th (only ref seems to be Encarta and works that used Encarta as a reference [http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761569148_6/Alaska.html\). --mav 21:31, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

• Removed 1944 - World War II: The two largest invasion fleets heretofore in history sailed that morning on opposite sides of the world.

I assume one refers to the Normandy D-day invasion of June 6, 1944; the other is less clear to me. Awkwardly worded, no link to an actual event. Bo Lawler 21:50, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I was just wondering why this event was deleted from the list. Is it not notable enough? (If it is not, it should also be removed from the 1982 page, where it is also listed.) I'd appreciate an explanation, if only so I can better understand what types of events are considered notable, and which ones are not. Thanks! --Twilightsojourn 20:27, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

I doubt it. As far as I'm aware, even the year of his birth is not 100% certain. Cosmic Latte (talk) 13:50, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
