June 19: Juneteenth in some parts of the United States 1306 – Wars of Scottish Independence: The Earl of Pembroke's English army defeated Robert the Bruce's Scottish army at the Battle of Methven. 1867 – Maximilian I of the Second Mexican Empire (pictured) was executed by firing squad in Querétaro. 1953 – Americans Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed as spies who passed U.S. nuclear weapons secrets to the Soviet Union. 1961 – Kuwait declared independence from the United Kingdom. 1970 – The Patent Cooperation Treaty, an international law treaty, was signed, providing a unified procedure for filing patent applications to protect inventions. Entry for the arrival of Statue of Liberty to New York harbor must have been duplicated (June 17 and June 19) - one is supposed to be a fallacy while another is true. --PuzzletChung

• 1912 - The eight-hour work day is established in the United States.

The Adamson Act, the first Federal act regulating hours, was passed in 1916. The evolution of the 8-hour day is better explained in the article, but there is no significant event chronicled for 1912.
