The prison was opened on March 19, 1993. Junee is the only privately operated prison in New South Wales. [1]
[edit] History
Junee was selected as the site for a new prison when the New South Wales State Government called for expressions of interest from local councils in 1988. The prison is managed by Australian Correctional Services (ACS), a consortium of ADT Australia, Theiss Contractors and Wackenhut Corrections Corporation.
Junee was the first prison in Australia to be designed, constructed and managed by the private sector under a single contractual arrangement.
