• In Irvine, California, a 30 year old man identified as Joseph Hunter Parker kills two supermarket employees with a sword, before being shot to death himself by the police. His victims are identified as John G. Nutting, 60, and Judith Fleming, 55. The event occurred at an Albertsons supermarket.
• Comedian and actor Buddy Hackett dies at his home in Malibu at the age of 78.
