Talk:Jumpgate (Babylon 5)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I don't know about merging the Freelancer part of the article into another article. It could be kept here as its own section, or broken off into its own article, or merged with the Freelancer article. As far as the Freelancer information on jump gates, whatever is decided is fine with me. It's just that I'd like to keep the Babylon 5 part as its own article.
I tried to describe the gate and the process of using the gate as best I could. It's rather late where I am, so I'm going to stop for now. If anyone has better ways to describe the gates and the processes, certainly feel free to make any changes.

The Black Star’s attack isn’t an example of the bonehead manoeuvre – it didn’t involve a jumpgate. The ship simply opened a jumphole right in the middle of the Earth Alliance formation. --Denorios 09:36, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
In one of the B5 episodes (might well be the film Third Space) it flashes back to the Vorlons thousands of years ago, and at one part the Vorlon ship opens up a blue jump point in normal space (not yellow in this case,) probably just a slip up in the sequence, although since it's Vorlon tech they may have different ways of doing things to everyone else, perhaps enterring hyperspace is harder than leaving so many races use a poorer system which appears yellow. Maybe something worthy of note in there..
[edit] Do self-generated jump gate holes become unstable if hit by weapons fire?
I remember an episode where a Narn fleet was surprised by Shadow vessels. They had fight the Shadows until their jump engines recharged. After taking heavy losses and facing imminent destruction, they tried to flee, but moments before the Narn ships entered their jumppoints the Shadow vessels fired into the jumppoint holes, apparently causing them to become unstable. As it was too late to veer off, the Narn vessels entered the jumppoints, which then appeared to collapse, destroying the vessels. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.4.131.140 (talk) 16:44, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, that was a specialized weapon. The Shadows were millennia ahead of the younger races in terms of technology and were around at the inception of (if not involved in the creation of) jumpgate technology. Hadji32 (talk) 08:29, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- Typically weapons fire does not effect jump points. This probably has more to do with what a jump point would be in real physics, which is a portal between 2 different dimensions. The jump point really doesn't "Exist" if you will. Regardless, as Hadji32 mentioned, in one episode the Shadows used a special weapon specifically to destabilize jump points. No one else in the series demonstrated the ability to do that (though one could assume that the rest of the first ones could also do that). --ShakataGaNai (talk) 19:52, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
