[edit] Summary

Front cover of Jūmonji Bishin no shigoto to shūhen (『十文字美信の仕事と周辺』, "The work and surroundings of Bishin Jumonji") incorporating a photograph of the middle-aged Jūmonji, and, in the place of his face, a photograph by the much younger Jūmonji. -- Hoary 14:15, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use in Bishin Jumonji

This image, Jumonji-ss.jpg, is being linked from Bishin Jumonji; though the picture is subject to copyright I believe it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

  1. it is a low resolution copy of a book cover;
  2. it does not in any way limit the rights or impede the efforts of the copyright owners to claim ownership of or derive income from the book or incorporated photograph;
  3. copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the artwork in any saleable form.

The cover design shows by example the "headless" series discussed within the article, and compounds the joke by stripping the photographer of his face, thus exemplifying Jumonji's visual wit. Thus it makes a valuable and not merely decorative addition to the article. -- Hoary 01:35, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
