Thanks
Hi. Thanks for the newsletter. Wow, we have 2 FA's already! Anyway, I noticed a few things: is "Graspe" (place in Canada) supposed to be Gaspé, on the one I recieved there is a red template link but this {{non-tropical}} seems to be fine. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 00:43, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. Ok, oh and by the way, where I live and in other parts of Southern Ontario there have been a foot of snow in many places. Snowbanks 5 ft high, and I spent an hour clearing the snowbank off the car. Great job on the project, and I have to go for now. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 01:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

New edition of newsletter
I have started the new edition of the WP:SEVERE newsletter at Wikipedia:WikiProject Severe weather/Newsletter/March 2008. I would like you to look at my nomination for featured story, I will make a featured member nomination later on. I will also help you with WP:NTROP newsletter. You might want to be sure to make the newsletter into an actual template as the table you created includes anything posted below it on talk pages. Thanks, Southern Illinois SKYWARN (talk) 17:05, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- It's at the original newsletter page. By the way, I will nominate User:JForget for featured member, I gave him a barnstar for his work. Southern Illinois SKYWARN (talk) 17:56, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

GA review of Castle Lake (California)
Thanks for the thoughtful comments in your review of Castle Lake (California) (and thanks for fixing the name back to parentheses). I'm traveling this weekend, so it may be another day or two before I work on the substance of the article. Thanks again! NorCalHistory (talk) 01:56, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- I believe (hope!) that I have responded to your notes on the Article Talk page. Sincere thanks for working on the endless task of trying to work down the GAN backlog. NorCalHistory (talk) 17:07, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- All comments cheerfully accepted! NorCalHistory (talk) 17:10, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'll be glad to take on your most recent round of suggestions - when I'm done, it would be great if you would like to give it a final scrubdown! NorCalHistory (talk) 17:15, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
I think I got all your points. Anything else? If you want to do some additional ce yourself, that would be appreciated! NorCalHistory (talk) 17:37, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your tweaks - I will give it one last look, and let you know within the hour! NorCalHistory (talk) 18:09, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Although I could tinker with this article endlessly, I've made a few last (minor) ce tweaks, and I think I better just submit it now for your final judgment . . . I've very much enjoyed working with you, it was a real pleasure! NorCalHistory (talk) 19:48, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Tropical Storm Fay (2002)
Under the impacts section, it states "In total, 4260 houses sustained damage from flooding", but your source only says 400 houses were damaged. Am I missing something here? ---CWY2190TC 03:34, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Tropical cyclone
Many edits were made to improve inline sourcing, per another reviewer, which led to some changes to the text of the article. If you could take another look at the article, it would be appreciated. I'm finding it disconcerting that oppose votes remain despite changes being made to fulfill the opposers requests. I'd really like the article to get to FA on its third attempt. GA review for "Episode 210"
Thanks for comments so far but I was wondering if you could elaborate a little on the comments you made about POV issues please. I realise that there is probably some in the sections mentioning the writers strike but there isn't many, if any, references regarding specific shows from the view of the AMPTP (the opposing side to the writers). -- Jamie jca (talk) 22:03, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

WelcomeWelcome to the second edition of the WikiProject Severe weather newsletter. In this edition of the newsletter we will detail the upcoming severe weather season, touch on last month's tornado outbreaks, and look at a new proposal for formatting tornado outbreak articles. New project articles
Featured storyThis month's featured story has two parts, the first part detailing the upcoming severe weather season, and the second part will detail a new proposal for tornado outbreak articles. With numerous outbreaks already, this season may very well be one of the worst ever. First, a review of past seasons. Last year's severe weather was mainly focused on the western High Plains, with no classic Oklahoma tornado outbreaks. Most of the outbreaks last season had supercells forming along either a cold front or dry line in western Kansas and the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. Most of these storms moved due north or northeast, producing flooding problems. The severe weather season was especially boring farther east in the Midwest where only an occasional squall line moved through. I personally missed the Greensburg tornado because I went to Saint Louis on May 5 to watch a baseball game. I can still remember seeing the high risk in Kansas on the monitor in the rest stop. 2006 was a little bit more active and widespread. As always, the NWS and SPC did an amazing job of forecasting the storms. Back to the future (ha!) the CPC outlooks are saying warmer and drier than normal in tornado alley. However, it looks to be a bit more exciting severe weather season for people farther east in the Midwest (including me) with warmer than normal temperatures and equal chances of being above and below forecast values, which usually means normal amounts. As local TV stations have pointed out, we should all be prepared. I know we have all heard it, but it still needs to be repeated. Two words: Weather Radio Everyone should have a tone-alerted weather radio, SAME if you perfer to not be woken up for a flash flood watch 50 miles from you. Weather radios will also go off if your local emergency management agency requests a statement be issued by the National Weather Service for things such as evacuations. (Note: Even though there was a gas leak in my town with evacuations, a prodcut was not issued by the National Weather Service, even when they are issued to request people to stay off roads.) If you are under a tornado warning or a high end severe thunderstorm warning (i.e.: 70 m.p.h. winds +) go to an interior room on the lowest floor of your building, perferably a basement. Stay away from windows and any other hazardous objects. I may not have included it all, so obey the safety rules in warnings from the National Weather Service. Spotters should call the NWS immediately upon observing severe weather. If the event was borderline severe, use E-Spotter (If your office uses it). Remember the #1 thing: Stay Safe this season anywhere you are, from chasing in Oklahoma to watching it unfold on TV in Ohio. New StandardsWith the upcoming severe weather season, User:Southern Illinois SKYWARN has proposed new standards for tornado outbreak articles. Overview States the number of tornadoes, fatalities. Briefly describes any strange events and records set. (Required) Meteorological sypnosis Describes weather leading up to the outbreak and SPC products issued.(Required) Confirmed tornadoes Tornado table, no text besides that in the table (Required, should be split into list if very large) Significant storms (Variable name) Describes the most significant storms and tornadoes (Required) Aftermath Descibes aftermath in detail, should also include disaster declerations (Required) Non-thunderstorm effects/Non-tornadic effects Use the first if snow or other non-thunderstorm events occured (Optional) The latter should be standard on all pages describing effects from a squall line, hail, flash flooding, or other non-tornadic effects (Required) Oddities/Records Only used if nessecary (Optional) References (Required) See also Should always link to at least List of North American tornadoes and tornado outbreaks (Required) External links External links should only go to news stories or NWS pages (Required) These standards have been developed for tornado outbreaks where a alot of information is available. Older outbreaks should include as much information as possible. Readers are encouraged to express their opinion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Severe weather/Tornado. Wikiwork statistics

Featured memberThis month's featured member is User:JForget The following text is from User:Southern Illinois SKYWARN's nomination This user has started numerous articles on older, significant tornado outbreaks that met notability requirements. JForget recently received a barnstar (even if it was from me) for his work in WikiProject Severe Weather. JForget is one of the most tireless contributors to the project and deserves to be this month's featured member. Note: Readers of this newsletter are urged to check the newsletter page for nominations for featured member and featured story. Significant stormsObviously the first order of business for this section is the massive, devestating tornado outbreak on February 5, or Super Tuesday. 82 tornadoes and 59 fatalities were confirmed in association with this outbreak. This was the deadliest outbreak since the United States-Canadian Outbreak in 1985 which killed 88. Tornado watches, many of them Particularly dangerous situation watches at one point extended from the Ohio Valley to the Gulf Coast. Instability and shear values were extreme, especially for February. This was a very well forecasted and warned event, despite media reports of people receiving no warning. I am sorry, but I am going to rant a little about this. The National Weather Service field offices and the Storm Prediction Center did an amazing job of warning of this event despite the speed of the storms. Many National Weather Service offices held at least one conference call with emergency managers, media, spotter groups, and other interested parties. I am outraged that the media reported this as if the forecasters were asleep at the wheel, while this really was one of the best forecasted events ever. Now while we will have to wait for the likely service assessment to come out, I believe that all numbers from the false-alarm rate to the probability of detection were above national averages. Now that I am done with my little editorial, I will get back to the outbreak. A high risk was issued by the Storm Prediction Center on the morning of February 5 for most of Arkansas, the first such issuance in February since 1998. Later in the morning, it was further was extened to include western Kentucky, northwestern Mississippi, the Missouri Bootheel, West Tennessee, and Far Southern Illinois (Close to where I live, Yikes!). A moderate risk surrounded this area, where the squall line was the main problem. A massive squal line developed in the Great Plains prompting only a few warnings at first, but when it came into the area where the cap had broken and unfortunately supercells went through, it exploded producing strong winds, hail, and a few tornadoes. Now for the supercells. Supercells began to develop late in the day in Arkansas and Missouri after the cap broke mcuh later than expected. These supercells began to move north and east and then became tornadic. A record five tornado emergencies were issued in association with this outbreak. One supercell developed to the southwest of Memphis and devestated eastern and southern suburbs. Other notable supercells had tracks of over 200 miles and produced several tornadoes. For more information about its non-tornadic effects see the article and the upcoming WikiProject Non-Tropical storms newsletter.

Newsletters
Thanks for the compliment. I will start working on the WP:NTROP newsletter anytime. One thing about the NTROP newsletter, be sure to make it into a template rather than changing the whole thing to table, I had to delete the newsletter from my talk page as it included any messages posted below it. I personally like the format of WP:SEVERE newsletter at the start of the month, and the NTROP newsletter in the middle. We could flip the order every once and a while to put both projects on equal standing. Any thoughts? Southern Illinois SKYWARN (talk) 03:46, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Suggested coachee
Hello Julian. MBisanz suggested that I should be your admin coach. I looked over your contributions and I'm quite impressed by your work. I think I can "prepare" you for adminship. For curiosity's sake, I can tell you that I have had three coachees, two of whom are currently admins (Heimstern and Mallanox). The other one (Exir Kamalabadi) has been inactive due to the blocking of Wikipedia in mainland China. If you accept, I'll gladly take you under my wing. Nishkid64 (talk) 16:40, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- You can start by creating a subpage in your userspace. Introduce yourself and explain what you intend to get out of this admin coaching. Give me a few days to start working with you. I have exams and an essay to write. :( Nishkid64 (talk) 02:55, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

User:Juliancolton/List of retired Australian cyclone names
You probably already know this, but there are three different RSMC's in the Australian region. Perhaps it might be good to divide the names in User:Juliancolton/List of retired Australian cyclone names apart by city; that is, have one section for Darwin retired names, one ofr Brisbane, and one for Perth. Alternatively, three seperate lists could be created (excessive IMO) or having a fourth section titled "By RSMC" or the like. Miss Madeline | Talk to Madeline 05:53, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Not to be rude...
Well, I did put a source on that page, except I had no idea how to complete the reference site, even though i apparently used the correct syntax. So I thought another user or a Bot would complete it for me, because I remember when I didn't know how to put somethig in the right place, the next day it was in the right place. But that's a different story. I knew that it was more then 2 million dollars, because that was an early report from Vermont. Please excuse me because I am 11 and half the time don't know what i am doing. Am i wrong to even be doing this anyway? Anyways,

I've done a bit of copyediting on List of New York hurricanes, and I see that help has come from elsewhere as well. I noticed that the article includes three GIFs, which are deprecated except for animations. I didn't change any of them, but Hurricane Bob has a good one that could be substituted for the top image, and the other two could be converted to JPG or PNG. I could help with this if you like. Image file conversions
Paint.NET, available free here on the Internet, will do the conversions on computers running Windows. Ditto for Photoshop. The procedure is to download the existing image from Wikipedia or the Commons to your home computer, convert the image to the desired format, re-upload, and insert the new image in the desired place(s) in one or more articles. I can do that for you if you want me to, but you might prefer adding some new tools and techniques to your repertoire. Finetooth (talk) 00:52, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Infobox hurricane impact
I was waiting for when you'd get around to that. Alright, I had a couple of thoughts on it from the past. I think it should go like this.
- Name (on top)
- Category (based on peak SSHS winds in the area)
- Image
- Image caption
- Areas affected (this should be first, since it's the focus of the article)
- Date (either date of closest point of approach, or of landfall)
- Highest winds (within the area, in mph, then km/h 1-min sustained)
- Gusts (within the area, in mph, then km/h 1-min sustained)
- Rainfall maxima (perhaps make optional)
- Fatalities
- Damage
- Season

Sorry for the delayed response. I have now posted some practice AIV reports. Best, Nishkid64 (Make articles, not love) 01:22, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Article tagging
Whenever a subproject tag is added to a particular page (flood, hurricane, non-tropical), it has been the custom to remove the meteorology tag since the subproject tag also has a link to the meteorology project. It eliminates repetition. Thegreatdr (talk) 16:17, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the compliments!
I see you've been busy adding to the ranks of HV. Thanks ... I was going to make some of those changes myself.
I very much appreciate your compliments on the three NHL articles (Springside, Dutch Reformed Church and Delaware and Hudson Canal (that one was already tagged, though)). Yes, I do intend to take those to GA and maybe FA eventually ... Springside is probably closer; I'm just waiting to get a photo of the section of the house that's in the state museum. As for the DRC, I'm hoping to get in touch with Jim Hoekema and get a pic of the inside, then add a section on its current rehabilitation issues, update the infobox to {{infobox religious building}} and (ideally) get a pic from when Hillary Clinton visited (I was there that day covering it as a reporter, so this article means a lot to me). Daniel Case (talk) 18:44, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Here's a photo of the Springside display on the fourth floor of the state museum if you need to have a reference. Daniel Case (talk) 22:25, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Tropical cyclones Newsletter
I currently have a bot that delivers newsletters. Could it deliver this WP's newsletter to? Please reply on my talk page. Thanks, - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:25, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- Alright. I would be glad to deliever it. When it's ready, simply list it on the bot's userpage. (Under the appropriate section) BTW, if you know any other WP's that have newsletters, please ask them if I can deliver it. Thanks, - Milk's Favorite Cookie 00:29, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
IRC
I rejoined the IRC channel, tornado warnings over the north suburbs. I just wanted to let my computer settle down for awhile as it was starting to run slowly. Southern Illinois SKYWARN (talk) 17:07, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Re: Banner
It's kind of a secret between me and Chetblong. I can make one for you if you would like. And preferences (font, images, text etc.)? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:53, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Peer review idea
Hi, I have made a proposal that no peer review request be archived without some response. To aid in this, there is a new list of PR requests at least one week old that have had no repsonses beyond a semi-automated peer review. This list is at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog.
There are just over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, so I figure if each of these volunteers reviewed just one or two PR requests without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog (as there have been 2 or 3 such unanswered requests a day on average).
If you would be able to help out with a review or two a month from the "no responses" backlog list that would be great (and much appreciated). Please discuss questions, comments, or ideas at the PR talk page and thanks in advance for your help, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:23, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Bot
When you make the newsletter there are simple instructions to follow on the bot's user page. I haven't tested it yet, but I'm pretty sure it works. Thanks, - Milk's Favorite Cookie 18:15, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- When it's ready obviously. What will it deliver if you add it to the page with no newsletter? :p - Milk's Favorite Cookie 19:56, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
St. Patrick's Day
Rome moved the celebrations to this past Saturday March 15 this year (as well as a number of large cities in the United States), because it is apparently not "kosher" to celebrate the holiday between Palm Sunday and Easter, and is the first time it has been moved since 1940. This was on wikipedia news last week, and yahoo news the week before. Happy day-that-would-otherwise-be-St. Patrick's Day though. Thegreatdr (talk) 21:48, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your support on my request for adminship. It passed 92/2/2, as you obviously know. You've been a good protégé these last few months, and it's bound to get better from here! IDK, I see you on IRC all the time, so I'll just talk to you tomorrow or so. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:19, 18 March 2008 (UTC) |
Thanks for helping with Jerry
I had completely forgot what the website of finding NCDC listed damages was. I tried searching the NCDC website with no avail late this morning. Thegreatdr (talk) 19:03, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

I hearby award you the minor barnstar for making important small contributions to the Tropical Storm Jerry (1995) article which preserved content that would have otherwise been lost. Thegreatdr (talk) 19:18, 18 March 2008 (UTC) |
Effects of Hurricane Dennis in Florida
I went through the article and made a few minor, probably irrelevant changes. It looks very good, which made it hard to find things to fix! Best of luck with it. jj137 (talk) 19:49, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, and welcome to the Celtics WikiProject! We are a group of (mainly) Celtics fans who help to improve coverage related to the Boston Celtics on Wikipedia.
Looking for somewhere to start? Here is a few suggestions.
- You can check out topics on the main page.
- You can add {{WikiProject Boston Celtics}} to talk pages of Boston Celtics-related articles, and assess them as well.
- Check out the to do list for the WikiProject, and opt to try and complete some of those tasks.
If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to talk about the project in general, feel free to leave a message on the talk page.

Charley Critique
- I responded on Charley's talk page. Please leave some more specific criticisms so I can begin to deal with them. TheNobleSith (talk) 02:44, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- I responded as well. We need to hash this out. How can he, or anyone, possibly double or triple the size of this article without restating facts? Charley impacted a small area of Texas and northeast Mexico. There are only five TCDs for him to work off of for storm history. The storm didn't live that long. When I created the Texas hurricane history in real time (1997-1999), there was very little information available concerning Charley. Last I checked, the only size criteria for GA involved sections not being stubs. I do agree on filling out the references more...but not on cite web being a must for GA. If it were, I would never have been able to have any articles I submit for GAC pass, since I don't use that style of referencing. Thegreatdr (talk) 14:45, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
You know something odd...I can't see your messasges on your own talk page Julian. I see people responding to you here, but not your actual messages. Do you remove them or something?TheNobleSith (talk) 15:08, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
