[edit] Hello
Let's get started...
First, here's a general strategy we'll follow with respect to your RfA:
Don't worry about RfA. Forget all about it. The first area we'll focus on is your editing, and relevant tools. Article development skills provide a strong foundation for adminship. Remain WP:CIVIL at all times, and WP:AGF. Engage in absolutely no edit warring. Become completely familiar with Consensus.
After a few months, we'll move on to administrative activities. This will probably include a balance between XfD participation, vandalism patrolling and watchdogging, and request-page participation.
Next, you should pick an area of activity you have great interest in, immerse yourself in it, and write a lesson for it.
Then about a month before your RfA, I'll ask you to familiarize yourself with the RfA process. To do that, you should read all new RfAs for about a month.
Then I'll coordinate your RfA, which means I'll create your RfA (sub)page, and after you have answered the optional questions to your satisfaction, and after any co-noms have contributed their statements, I'll transclude the page to WP:RFA.
There's no need to be in a hurry. Generally 5 or 6 months to a year is good prep time. If you want to shoot for earlier, we can ramp up your activity, no problem.
The above is just my suggestion, and of course it's open to discussion.
I look forward to working with you.
Do you have any questions?

What's your plan for this article? When do you think you will have it ready for FLC?
You should submit it to Wikipedia:Requests for feedback, Wikipedia:Good article candidates, and Wikipedia:Peer review before going back to WP:FLC. (The last one is specifically for preparing to go to FAC/FLC.)
The Transhumanist 17:38, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- First, I have to see if it is kept. If it's kept, I am going to do more work on it, and then send it to PR. BTW, I think GA is only for articles. Juliancolton (talk) 21:08, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
-
- Featured lists came to be as an expansion of Featured articles - initially, they were submitted to WP:FAC. The same thing applies to WP:GAN. The Transhumanist 00:55, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Watchlist
You should add this page to your watchlist, if you haven't already.
By the way, are you monitoring changes made to storm articles using your watchlist?
The Transhumanist 21:05, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- I have had it on there for a while, thanks. Juliancolton (talk) 21:07, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
-
- Have you added your coaching page to your watchlist?
-
- I think it would be a very good idea for you to set your "my preferences" to automatically add all pages you edit to your watchlist. It will help you monitor and maintain the pages you've helped improve.
-
- The Transhumanist 00:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- I already have that. Juliancolton (talk) 01:08, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Assignment
There are several assignments I have in mind for you to choose from (if you pick the watchdog assignment, pick two):
- Sharkface and I are working on the Glossary of philosophical isms. Our current discussion about it is on my talk page under User talk:The Transhumanist#Future plans. We're about to start the hunt for references, to provide sources for the facts presented in the glossary. Initially, we'll be using WP:AWB a lot, to post citation and fact tags on the articles corresponding to the glossary entries.
- I'm always looking for people to join the Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists of basic topics. We develop basic topics lists, which together make up one of Wikipedia's tables of contents systems. There are lots of lists for that collection that need work. Developing those is a fun way to learn new subjects. I've discovered all kinds of interesting things working on those. To get started, take a look at List of basic meteorology topics. By the way, what is the field that studies storms called?
- Wikipedia:Portal peer review/Contents needs participants. We need input on how to continue development on the Wikipedia's contents system. RichardF is leading the discussion on the design of the tables of contents for the main subject areas of Wikipedia (Geography and places, People and self, History and events, Technology, etc.).
- The article meaning of life is slowly but surely being prepared for WP:FAC. You could help get it ready. It too needs sources.
- User:Phoenix-wiki (another student) is running the Wikipedia:WikiProject History, to help coordinate development of the entire subject of history on Wikipedia. You could ask him what needs the most work in that subject.
- The Portal:Health and Portal:Thinking need some long overdue updating. They haven't been worked on much in the past year. If you compare them to the best portals you can find, and you will see that they are falling behind the state-of-the-art of portal design on Wikipedia. Someone needs to bring those up to snuff.
- The Wikipedia:WikiProject Health needs life breathed into it. First, the project page and its talk page need to be redesigned -- presenting things for people to do. Then, someone needs to place project banners on the talk pages of all the health-related articles on Wikipedia to attract people to the project page. There are thousands of these articles. It's a good chore for using WP:AWB.
- Watchdog all the storm-related articles on Wikipedia. To do this, add them all to your watchlist. You can use AWB to gather their names, and then cut and paste them into your watchlist. Check your watchlist often, and/or use Lupin's Anti-Vandal Tool (in another window, and check the window periodically) to watch those articles for vandalism and poor edits. To expand your watchlist to follow-up on every article you work on, set your watchlist settings in "My preferences".
- Working hand-in-hand with RichardF's project above is index development. Major subjects are slowly but surely acquiring indexes and an integrated navigation template (for each subject) to tie the indexes together with the subject's various tables of contents. For examples, see List of mathematics articles, List of history topics, List of psychology topics, List of geography topics, List of basic political science topics, and List of health topics.
Let me know what you decide to work on, and ask any questions you have.

(Please post your responses on this page, to keep the discussion intact. Thank you. copied your latest reply, below:)
- I took a look at my coaching page, and I decided to start with the basic list assignment. just tell me what you want me to to there. Juliancolton (talk) 19:05, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
-
- Work on them. Start by reading them all; somewhere along the way, you'll know what to do. Many of the incomplete ones are listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists of basic topics. Read those last. If you'd like to work on a particular section for all the lists in a row, for example each one's history section, Linky is the most effective tool for that. (Though it requires Firefox - if you don't have Firefox, I highly recommend that you install it). The Transhumanist 19:50, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Do you have AWB yet?
If you haven't already, request approval at WP:AWB. The Transhumanist 11:20, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- No, I don't have it. Is it something I have to install? Juliancolton (talk) 18:16, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

- Yes. Read the instructions at WP:AWB. The Transhumanist 05:17, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Basic topic lists
See the List of basic meteorology topics. It's just a bare skeleton. Do you think you can fill it in?
The Transhumanist 05:27, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- I have already added one or two article to that list, and I am going to try to get more work done on it when I get done with my GANs. Juliancolton (talk) 12:52, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Before it was a redirect. Now it's its own page. Take another look. The Transhumanist 11:28, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- Ah, I will start with that soon. Juliancolton (talk) 13:17, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Coaching
I have gotten some number of complaints, name calling, and otherwise being hated in the wikipedia community. Is it possible to start on more basic general wikipedia training, before I start working to be an admin? I will go back to admin coaching in a month or so, if yes. Juliancolton (talk) 00:11, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- Don't worry, we are in general coaching. See the explanation and recommendations in the #Hello section above.
- We can include whatever areas you wish to improve.
- By the way, the basic topic lists are about as general as you can get. By the way, I've added some links to List of basic meteorology topics. Please feel free to remove any that aren't "basic".
- Looking over your conflicts, I think "communication" would be a good one to work on. The Transhumanist 11:09, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Communication
I noticed that your talk page conversations are one-sided. That is, on your talk page, only one side of the conversation is displayed. Your replies aren't included! That makes it difficult to read those conversations.
I recommend that you reply to messages on your talk page on your talk page.
What I do with user talk page conversations I'm in is include the complete discussion on my talk page. So even if a person replies to me on their talk page, I usually copy the whole conversation to my talk page.
It makes it easier for everyone to get to know you (because they'll get to read what you wrote, not just what everybody else wrote).
To help you avoid pissing people off, you should read the pages listed at WP:BEHAVE. And read Wikipedia:Etiquette.
Those should help a lot.
The Transhumanist 11:09, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I read them, and they did give me some good tips. But, the reason I get people mad is because they believe my writing isn't good enough, and I don't write about notable things. Are there any guidlines for those things? Juliancolton (talk) 13:30, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
-
- The notabiity problem can be solved by citing reliable sources. If a hurricane is covered in multiple news reports, by reliable news companies, then it is notable.
-
- Can you point me to some criticisms of your writing? In general, you can improve your writing by using a spell checker, a grammar checker, and by studying grammar and style:
-
- Please let me know how helpful those are.
-
- You should get familiar with Wikipedia's help system and directories - you will soon be able to find the answer to any question (the secret of many experts). Visit Help:Contents and Wikipedia:Community Portal often. Explore every link on those pages and their subpages. And explore the menus at the tops of those pages. The Transhumanist 01:26, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- Ok, I will read those when I get the chance. I have read one or two, and the seem useful. Oh, and here is an example of my writing being critisized --Special:Contributions/Juliancolton ;). Actually, see List of Category 4 Atlantic hurricanes. That was a big critisism thing for my writing. Juliancolton (talk) 00:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- The criticisms weren't aimed at you, but at the article. You responded to the feedback by fixing the article, and that's exactly what you should do. The discussion about improving the article seemed normal to me. There's nothing there to worry about. To get an idea of what goes into a perfect list, study or participate in the WP:FLC department. [edit] Award center
Hey, I singed up at your award center for the 100 vandalism revert section. Just thought you might want to know so you can keep count if you need to ;) Juliancolton (talk) 14:59, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- Cool. One hundred reversions goes by surprisingly fast. Have fun. The Transhumanist 08:04, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- Thanks, I'm already up to 7 :) Juliancolton (talk) 13:38, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Collaboration
I'm pushing a collaboration to complete the list of basic space exploration topics.
Should be fun. Drop on by. ;)
Also, see my post to User talk:Quiddity#Basic topic lists if you want to delve in deeper.
The Transhumanist 09:12, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well, space isn't really my thing, but sure. I would be happy to help. Juliancolton (The Giants Win!) 14:22, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

- Cool. See you there. The Transhumanist 03:18, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Resign
