[edit] My personal Me

I'm primarily interested in psychology, philosophy, agnosticism, all things French, science, tolerance and intolerance, prejudices, politics, good sf and literature, movies, the Discworld, and many more...

I do not have any subject I'm a real expert in but I have some good general knowledge in a number of fields. I love to learn (which is why I love this place), so I think I might come in useful.

I'm French, so I often have a look at the French wikipedia for more information, and I have some experience with translation work. I won't edit much on the French wiki, though: I know it's not their fault that it's so far behind, but I'm primarily here to learn things, so what I'm interested in is the most complete version.

[edit] Why I love Wikipedia

  • It's a goldmine of facts.
  • It accepts all reasonable or even just widely supported points of view while staying relatively neutral.
  • It's extremely resilient to flame wars and good at staying constructive.
  • You see all kinds of people from all around the world; mostly those who talk don't say too much crap, too.
  • People generally assume good faith, which is rare.
  • Tons of other reasons...

[edit] Why I hate it

  • It keeps me from working! Help!

[edit] Some favorite quotes

  • Not to be absolutely certain is, I think, one of the essential things in rationality. (Am I An Atheist Or An Agnostic?, Bertrand Russell)
  • Don't take life too seriously. You'll never get out of it alive. (Elbert Hubbard)
  • After ages during which the earth produced harmless trilobites and butterflies, evolution progressed to the point at which it generated Neros, Genghis Khans, and Hitlers. This, however, is a passing nightmare; in time the earth will become again incapable of supporting life, and peace will return. (Unpopular Essays,1950, Bertrand Russell)
