- July - The Large Hadron Collider (located at CERN, near Geneva, Switzerland) is scheduled to begin operation, it will become the world’s largest particle physics laboratory when it begins operations.
- July 1 - Smoking will be banned in all public places (including bars and restaurants) in the Netherlands.[citation needed]
- July 7–July 9 - 34th G8 summit will be held in Tōyako, Hokkaidō in Japan
- July 8–July 20 - World Gliding Championships will be held in Rieti, Italy.[1]
- July 11 - Apple Inc. releases it eagerly awaited 3G iPhone in 22 countries.
- July 14 - The 57th Miss Universe pageant will be broadcasted live from Nha Trang, Vietnam.[2]
- July 15–July 20 - World Youth Day will take place in Sydney, Australia, the largest youth gathering in the Southern Hemisphere with the visit of Pope Benedict XVI.[3]
- July 15 - Major League Baseball will hold the 2008 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium in New York to celebrate the final season of the famous ballpark.[4]
