- 1877 – The New York and Manhattan Beach Railway (a predecessor of the Long Island Rail Road) opens.[1]
- 1885 – The Zanesville and Ohio River Railway enters receivership.[2]
- 1900 – The first section of the Paris Métro opens.

- 1967 – The New York City Subway introduces its first air conditioned passenger car.[3]
