Brigadier Julius Maada Bio (born 1964) was the Chairman of the Supreme Council of State of Sierra Leone from January 17, 1996 to March 29, 1996. He came to power after engineering a coup against the country's former ruler, Captain Valentine Strasser. [1] [2]
In 1996 he relinquished power in favour of democratic elections, and was replaced on March 29, 1996 by President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah. Julius was subsequently dismissed from the army and moved to Ghana and later the United States of America to set up in business, [3] before returning to Sierra Leone with an ambition to re-enter the political world.
