Born | Julie Gonzalo September 9, 1981 Buenos Aires, Argentina |
Julie Gonzalo (born September 9, 1981) is an Argentinian-American actress. She is perhaps best known for her roles as Parker Lee in Veronica Mars, Shelby in A Cinderella Story and Maggie Dekker in Eli Stone.
Gonzalo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and raised in Miami, Florida.
This gorgeous 27 year old Latina ordinarily thought of as American due to her blonde hair and blue eyes was born and raised in Argentina, until her family decided to move to Miami, Florida where she didn’t speak a word of English. She was barely 8 yrs old at the time. Gonzalo states that “The hardest part about moving here (the States) was the language…I learned at school – and by watching TV.” (The following has been previously translated into english from an Argentinean webpage).
The Gonzalo family moved from Buenos Aires to Miami where Julie found her passion for acting as she began taking classes in theatre. She developed a love for acting and her whole life was fascinated by the notion of making people laugh. After a period of time she relocated solo to Los Angeles in the hope to see what may occur in the way of a career in the industry. Luck came her way and she became surrounded by good people which helped her in her endeavours to further her acting, as within 6 months of being situated in Los Angeles she was involved with her first film.
Ordinarily when she wins a role for any film she celebrates by balling her eyes out for gratitude that those who helped her get the role had enough faith in her to pull it off. She attributes her success as a Blessing from God for being in the right place at the right time.
She has very fluent Spanish and is hoping to release movies within the Spanish market as well as the Western. She has a great sense of pride for her culture.
However even so she still maintains she is American as on [1] an Argentinean website that speaks of upcoming events which interviews celebrities and so forth was asked.
You're latina, but contrary to many other hispanic actresses who started their careers playing latin roles, you started off like an American: I'm Argentinean but I grew up here. I'm hispanic but am trying to do my career in the American cinema. I can do Latin roles, but I'm American and here is where I pay my taxes.
She's breaking the stereotype for White Latinas everywhere, letting the world know that not all Latin women look like Jennifer Lopez some are, blonde blue eyed beauties.
“Lot’s of people see me and are surprised because they imagined a different type. Like Julie Gonzalo doesn’t suit my body. They’d ask me ‘Where are you from? I’d say, Argentina; they’d reply ‘Your family is from Argentina.’ I’d reply ‘No I was born there and for me it’s a privilege to be able to communicate with two different markets both English and Spanish.”
The starlet is 5' 8" she can be seen in the music videos “Heaven” for popular Hispanic boy band Menudo and “I Need You Now” for Bart Baldwin. It has recently been reported that she is dating writer/director Brinton Bryan (born December 20, 1981).
“Being blonde eliminated the possibilities to do Latin roles, and the fact that I don't have a Latin accent because I was practically raised in the US.” Julie Gonzalo.
Fans will be able to see Gonzalo in her newest upcoming film Ladrón que roba a ladron in which she was quoted as saying on the project ¨Con esta película uno mis raíces con mi pasión¨ (With this movie I unite my heritage with my passion).
