Jules de Balincourt

Jules de Balincourt (born 1972 in Paris) is a French painter. He was educated at the California College of Arts and Crafts, San Francisco receiving a BFA (1998) and went on to study at the Hunter College, New York graduating in 2005 with an MFA. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He uses stencils, tape, knives and spray paint in the style of Outsider art.[1]

His work has been exhibited at several prominent international galleries and museums including Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and Palais de Tokyo in Paris, and has been featured in several high profile exhibitions including, “Greater New York” at the PS1 Center for Contemporary Art and MOMA in New York, and “USA Today” at The Royal Academy in London. His work is in several prominent collections, including the Oppenheimer – JCCC Collection for the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Saatchi Gallery. He is represented by Zach Feuer Gallery in New York.

De Balincourt founded the alternative art space Starr Space (formerly known as Starr Street Projects) in Brooklyn, NY. "Currently the space is used for dance and music performances, screenings, figure drawing, yoga, fundraisers and local church parties, and is constantly looking to expand in programming. "The future of the space, with hope, will encompass even more diverse happenings, leading to a regular congregation that reflects the quickening evolvement of the neighborhood."[2]
