[edit] Geki and Rinki

I'm not sure I like the edits that changed all of the geki and rinki references to Firece Qi and Confrontation Qi respectively. To me it makes more sense to keep the puns intact (that's how the fansub refer to them) and simply define the terms rather than explicity translate them all. It seems a lot clearer to anyone watching the fansubs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by WQZarn (talkcontribs)

Fractyl, this better not be you.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 05:56, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

No, I'm not Fractyl. I'm just trying to make these articles as clear as possible. My point is that overall I found the articles easier to read before these edits were made. There are all kinds of words kept in their original Japanese (attacks, character names, etc..) so why treat the terms Geki, Rinki and Kageki any differently. It makes far more sense for anyone reading these articles and watching these shows if you keep them untranslated.WQZarn 15:55, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Finally, someone who gets that some things be left alone, though I wouldn't rely on just fansubs. Ryulong, you should think carefully before jumping to conclusions. Besides I directly contact you about stuff like this. Fractyl 19:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I just find it really suspicious that a new user comes to this page first and complains about "Geki and Rinki" being translated when you, yourself, Fractyl have been raising the same issues.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 21:14, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I could understand, I guess. But still, some people do think alike on certain matters. Like you and me on a few matters. Fractyl 22:52, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I have to say I'm really annoyed that my motivations and my identity are being questioned in such a fundamental way. I've been on Wikipedia for a long time as a avid reader, but not a contributor. Let me assure you that I'm not a sock puppet. I understand that my posts might look suspicious, but to me it feels like my, and a lot of other people's comments on these articles in general are being brushed aside and not being seriously considered. I'm really not interested in turf wars over these articles, I just felt like expressing an opinion. WQZarn 03:46, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I apologize. I've since discovered that I was wrong.
Anyway, the whole thing with the translation is that the fansubbing groups tend to not translate things whenever they feel it's something that's difficult to translate into English, or just for artistic expression. Here, as an encyclopedia, we provide the translated data, because this is the English language project. There are different preferences, and I felt it was better to translate rather than transliterate.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 03:56, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I can respect that opinion. For me it really all comes down to the readability of the article. I happen to think the original terms just flow more smoothly than "Fierce Qi," but that's just me. WQZarn 04:16, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I'd say go back to Geki and Rinki. Someone might come across the article and not know how to say or read Qi. Geki and Rinki are somewhat phonetic and easyer to say.Metropod 01:34, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

This is why we have Qi linked to where it is in use.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 01:47, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, I've put this togetherRyūlóng (竜龍) 02:14, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I don't know...I think if would be better it they were reverted and the page is given a "Name/Pun" for explaination. But that's my opinon.Fractyl 04:02, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Names and puns are original research unless you have a textual support to it.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 04:50, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
To reiterate, what we have here is the translated name, which is not original research, otherwise everything would be referred to by the Japanese name.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 04:52, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Textual support? Like "Geki" is a pun of "Geki" and Ki. But I do agree with many on Qi, hence why I labeled "Chi" a more familar word and it fits the chinese theme. Names/Puns shouldn't even be considered a bad thing when they explain the show's theme. Fractyl 14:33, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
"Textual support" means something by either Toei or a Japanese individual who states these things.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 21:08, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay I would have to take nether side, just because I don't see any "Textual support" for ether Qi or Ki. Novaheart 04:00, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
"Qi" is the translation. "Ki" is the pronunciation in Japanese.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 04:21, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

I hate to bring this up after it seems like there's been a rough general consensus, but why use "Qi" instead of "Ki"? "Ki" is a definite concept in Japanese culture - I mean, it's true that it's derived from the Chinese concept of "Qi", but I think it's been a part of Japanese culture long enough to be considered in its own terms. And, while this relies only on my personal experience, I think more (English) people would understand "Ki" or maybe "Chi" as relating to the "special energy" as compared to "Qi" (judging from usage in various anime and martial arts advertisements). Also, this is inconsistent with other areas of the article - for example, using "kyonshi" rather than "jiang shi", despite "kyonshi" being the (quite clearly) corrupted form of "jiang shi" in Japanese. Unless, of course, "Qi" were changed to "Ki", in which case the rest of the article is consistent. Oh, and just on a personal note, I'd also prefer that the article be returned to "Geki"/"Rinki" usage, but I can also understand your arguments against that, which is why I'd prefer this relatively minor and self-consistent change--Egocentrism04 07:54, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

I agree now that "Ki" is a much better term usage, but "Geki" and "Rinki" are still kanji based terms that can be translated (now into "Fierce Ki" and "Confrontation Ki").—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 08:06, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Just to add (How many months later? Heh.), I think that geki and rinki should indeed both be translated accordingly. A good reason for this is that they are not proper nouns, but simply regular nouns that describe the kind of chi. "Geki Ranger" is however a proper name. It goes untranslated since it is the proper name for the team. It's like certain animals that have an adjective before the general name for them, yet we don't capitalize that because it's not a proper noun (because of this, I also think we should not capitalize fierce chi or confrontational chi, but that's something else).
Also, English utilizes all three chi, qi, and ki, so any of the three would be fine. Star6phoenix9 (talk) 21:35, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gekiranger's Winter Toyline

Revealed by Dukemon.

  • Saidaioh: Rhino-themed robot (October)
  • Sai-Blade: Rhino-themed katana (September)
  • GekiChopper: A new character (September)

Fractyl 22:44, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I've found a random mention of GekiChopper (ゲキチョッパー Gekichoppā?) but nothing definitive. We'll have to wait for the toy catalogs.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 00:57, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

These have appeared on Futaba, no accompanying scans:

  • Beast-Fist Gattai DX SaiDaiOh (3rd Robo) (獣拳合体DXサイダイオー(3号ロボ) 10月 Jūken Gattai DX SaiDaiŌ (Sangō Robo)?)
  • Strongest Henshin Tegatana DX SaiBlade (最強変身手刀 DXサイブレード 9月 Saikyō Henshin Tegatana DX SaiBurēdo?)
  • Sentai Hero Series 08 GekiChopper (戦隊ヒーローシリーズ08 ゲキチョッパー 9月 Sentai Hīrō Shirīzu 08 GekiChoppā?)

[edit] GekiViolet info

  • It seems to cover the next few episodes after 21 to 23? But I left some info cryptic, but the new guys' names are offical.

Though the body of Rinjuu Bear-Fist Grand Master Maku, the last of the Three Kenma, was revealed to be inside Rinjuu Hall the entire time, not even the final Madoku fang could ressurect him by itself. As for Retsu's brother, it would be revealed that during his battle with Rio after he betrayed the Gekijuuken, Gou Fukami was forced use the same Gekiwaza used by the Kensei in the past. Fractyl 05:11, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

I can't find any official names yet.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 06:40, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
But the pix are out!

Earth Kenma Maku

Gou Fukami

Fractyl 23:10, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

There are no names out. So we do not list them until we have names.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 23:30, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Normally I wouldn't say anything, but you have posted multiple rangers that appeared on Power Rangers pictures without names, Specifically, The Unnamed Red Koragg it had for a while, all going off pictures, as Sentai isn't enough for that, as they alter. But Pictures of a civilian form and ranger form for Sentai isn't good enough for you? That makes no sense... Myzou 11:39, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
We had a scan that featured the Red Koragg in Japanese, though, that specifically referred to Mystic Force and not Magiranger. Right now, we have the title GekiViolet, a possible actor based on rumors, but we don't have the character's name (the human). I haven't read anything that mentions "Fukami Gou" or "Fukami Gō" anywhere in Japanese yet. If I find a scan on one of the Japanese boards today that says the character's name, then we'll include it (Maku is listed right now because of a blog that had access to the scans).—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 21:09, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Are you sure it's GekiViolet and not GekiPurple? That's kinda weird because violet is a derivative of purple. That would be like having a navy blue ranger exist before a blue ranger in the series. ---SilentRAGE! 23:52, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

The name is explicitly stated as GekiViolet (ゲキバイオレット Gekibaioretto?, [1]). If the character was "GekiPurple," it would be GekiPurple (ゲキパープル GekiPāpuru?).—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 23:55, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Genjyuuken (Illusion-Beast Fist)

FigureOh magazine (http://www.cow-spot.net/cgi/bbs8/img/RX20071022220015.jpg) and the official site (http://www.toei.co.jp/tv/user/program/read_story3.asp?Command=New&SID=252) both have confirmation of Illusion-Beast Basilisk Fist Sanyo, if anyone was curious. --Egocentrism04 17:40, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

I see no mention of "Phantom Beast-Fist" in the text of either, though.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 21:11, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, it is in the picture, I see "Genjū Bashirisukuken San'yo," but a picture is not currently sufficient as a source.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 21:17, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Maybe not, but it changes the Long profile to being a "Genjuu Dragon Fist Master". Plus, we see the theme of Genjuuken (幻獣拳 Genjūken?, Phantom Beast Fist) to revolve on mythical animals. Fractyl 02:46, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Exactly. I'm not saying we should change it now (otherwise I would've changed it myself) - I'm just adding these as a possible reference. There's been tons of speculation being thrown around, and I'm just trying to confirm some as true. --Egocentrism04 08:23, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay its been comfirmed that there is a Illusion [or Phantom, dunno what we're gonna use though Phantom does sound...err not gonna start that again] Beast-fist, though there isn't enough infomation to make a new category. For now just put it as part of Rinjyukin. Novaheart 18:47, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What does this mean?

You know List of Juken Sentai Gekiranger episodes. Does the background colors for the episode names mean the episode focuses on a certain character?. Mythdon (talk) 01:14, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

The background colors reflect the colors utilized in the previews for the next episode, which have in most cases coincided with the character that the episode focused on. If you watch the earlier episodes, you'll see that the color of the next episode title in the previews coincide with the character focus, but that has not been done for a while.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 01:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Is that why Lesson 32 onwards soley have red as the background?. Mythdon (talk) 01:48, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 01:53, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Do they still have episode previews?. If so, do they still have colors used during previews?. Mythdon (talk) 02:05, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, they are at the end of each episode, but the color is only red since Lesson 32.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 02:17, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
That does not mean focus character since Lesson 32 does it?. Mythdon (talk) 02:21, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
We do not know. All that we do know is that it has been red.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 02:56, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
