Judd Trump (born 21 August 1989) is an English professional snooker player from Whitchurch, Bristol who enjoyed considerable success in youth tournaments — he was English Under-13 and Under-15 champion, and reached the World Under-21 Championship semi-finals at 16.
[edit] Amateur days
Before entering in any official competitions, Alexander Niemeijer, a snooker coach and scout, once mentioned Trump to be a very talented young boy, comparable to a Ronnie O'Sullivan at a bit older age.[citation needed]
On 13 March 2004, as a 14-year-old, Trump achieved a maximum break against Chris Peach, during an Under-16 tournament at Coalville, Leicester, becoming the youngest player in history to compile a 147 in an official tournament (formerly Ronnie O'Sullivan's record for thirteen years).
[edit] Professional career
In the 2005/2006 season he joined the professional tour, and at the Welsh Open became the youngest player ever to qualify for the final stages of a ranking tournament. He reached the same last-48 stage for the China Open, losing 4-5 to Michael Holt, although this was designated the final qualifying round and was actually played in England.
Trump became the youngest player for fourteen years to reach the World Championship, at the 2007 event, by beating James Wattana 10-5 in the final qualifying round, and (with champions Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan) is one of only four 17-year-olds to feature at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre. Trump played the 2005 champion and 6th seed, Shaun Murphy, in the first round, losing 6-10 despite having lead 6-5 earlier.
