Jubilee High, Surrey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jubilee High is a co-educational 11-16 Foundation School in Addlestone, Surrey. It was formerly called "St Paul's Secondary Modern" and later "Abbeylands" ("Scabbylands" to local residents, then a school with "Serious weaknesses"). Pushed by S.C.C. into a "suspicious" P.P.P. deal to "outsource" its management to Nord Anglia, millions of pounds were pumped into the fabric of the school.

The previous headmaster and teaching staff were blamed for the school's poor performance. Now sadly, but somewhat in support of the efforts of the previous staff and management, the school is performing worse than ever. Exam results are falling well below that of previous years, (notably whilst under the "Abbeylands" management results went in a more positive direction), and in the latest Ofsted visit the view was still bleak:

"Having considered all the evidence I am of the opinion that at this time the school is making inadequate progress in addressing the issues for improvement and in raising students’ achievement." Asyia Kazmi, Her Majesty’s Inspector (March, 2008).

Headmaster is Mr Gareth Balch.

With the capacity for 800 pupils, Jubilee values being small and caring, offering a fully comprehensive education. It has a special status as a Performing Arts School and also as an International school.

It recently attained international status in six months, one quarter of the usual time.currently the school is attempting to make links with China, the Head Tacher Gareth Balch going on a two week trip there. The school has already created links with other schools internationally; Elde College in Holland and the Little Flower School in Africa. Through the latter it came into contact with the African Childrens Choir. The choir has appeared on BBC news and has performed for Simon Cowell, apparently bringing tears to his eyes.

It has recenly undergone a revamp including a £ 1.000.000 cylindrical theatre with a seating capacity of over 200. Recent performances range from Our Town to Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Other events have included a talent show and a fashion show.
