Jubilee is an Alternative Rock/Indie Rock band from Los Angeles, California, which formed in 2007. The band consists of Aaron North (Nine Inch Nails, The Icarus Line) on guitar and vocals, Michael Shuman (Queens of the Stone Age, Wires On Fire) on bass and vocals, Jeff Lynn (Wires On Fire) on guitar, and Robi Gonzalez on drums.
According to their press release written by Travis Keller, Jubilee's sound is "something like The Replacements, The Stone Roses, Neil Young, Blur, Jane's Addiction, Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Verve, all sliced ‘n diced together quite nicely."[1]
Jubilee is currently signed to Buddyhead Records, and have released the single “Rebel Hiss” from their forthcoming debut album on January 21, 2008 on 7 inch Vinyl, CD (which features photography by Travis Keller) and a limited edition tour 7 inch vinyl.[2] Three of the songs from their upcoming "Rebel Hiss" single, including "Rebel Hiss", "Fuzz Are Down" and "The Fool on the Pill".[3] Aaron North provides vocals on the "Rebel Hiss" single, B-side "Fuzz Are Down" and Neil Young cover "L.A.", while Michael Shuman provides vocals on b-side "The Fool on the Pill".
On a recent post on Buddyhead, it was announced by Aaron North that Jubilee would be the first band to ever use a new type of software to distribute a digital version of their single for US$3.00US in MP3, WAV and FLAC formats. North also announced that individuals would be able to subscribe to the "2008 Jubilee Digital Music Service" for US $19.95, which would entitle the individual to Jubilee's entire output for 2008, tentatively compromising of "the “Rebel Hiss” single, at least 2 more upcoming album singles also containing exclusive non-album tracks, the full-length debut album, exclusive live tracks, music videos, live videos, photos, lyrics, artwork, etc." and an "exclusive 7-inch single ONLY available to subscribers". It will also allow subscribers the chance to obtain "super limited pressings of Jubilee vinyl (including rare first pressings and even test presses)" and to access every release "before anybody else will". [4]
This release and distribution method closely follows and expands upon efforts made by Radiohead and Saul Williams on the release of their albums In Rainbows and The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! respectively. But is the first of its kind in the sense that Jubilee are a small band, the subscription offer, and the software they are using.
