Don Juan Valentín de Todos los Santos Urdangarín y de Borbón (born September 29, 1999 in Barcelona) is the eldest son of the Duchess and Duke of Palma de Mallorca, Infanta Cristina of Spain and Iñaki Urdangarin. Juan is eighth in the Line of succession to the Spanish Throne, after his mother. The Spanish news ABC says that he measured 53 cm and weighed 4.030 kg when he was born.
[edit] Baptism
He was baptized on 12 December 1999 in the Palace of Zarzuela, Barcelona. Hola! online magazine informs that the baptism was performed by Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela, Archbishop of Madrid. According to Spanish Royal Family tradition, the holy water used to baptize Juan was from the River Jordan. Juan's godparents include: his aunt the Infanta Elena and his uncle Mikel Urdangarín. He was named Juan after his great-grandfather the Count of Barcelona and his grandfather, the King of Spain; Valentín, after his father's great-grand-uncle, Saint Valentín of Berriochoa, or Berriotxoa, and Todos los Santos (English: All Saints) as it is customary among the Bourbons. The Spanish news ABC (www.abc.es) declares that he was also named Juan to honor his paternal grandfather, Juan Mariá Urdangarín. Sometimes the family, and even the media, call him "Juanito," in line with the common practice for Spanish boys to have the affectionate "ito" added to their names.
[edit] Titles
He bears the title of "His Excellency Don Juan Valentín, etc. and Grandee of Spain" since he was born. All of the children of Infanta Cristina and Infanta Elena have the HE Don/Doña title, as befit the children of a Spanish duke. However, even if they do not have the title of Infante or Infanta, all of the grandchildren of King Juan Carlos are members of the Spanish Royal House.
[edit] Current life
Juan Valentín lives with his parents and his siblings in Barcelona, where he and his brother Pablo Nicolás are enrolled in the French School. His first school was the Carles Ribo preschool, also in Barcelona. Juan enjoys riding his bike, going to handball games and of course going to Palma de Mallorca for the much-celebrated Spanish Regatta season. He and his brothers, Pablo Nicolás and Miguel, are also fans of the FC Barcelona.
