Juan Sinforiano Bogarín

Juan Sinforiano Bogarín (born August 21, 1863, Mbuyapey – died February 25, 1949) was the first Roman Catholic Archbishop of Asunción in Paraguay. He became an ordained priest in 1886 and was appointed Bishop of Paraguay in 1894, at the age of 31. The see was elevated to an archdiocese on May 1, 1929. Political events that shaped his leadership of the Church included the end of oligarchic Liberal Party rule, the Febrerista revolution, and the dictatorships of Estigarribia and Morínigo. Bogarín died in 1949.
