Juan Pablo Villar Aleman (born June 22, 1949 in Cardenas, Matanzas, Cuba) is a Cuban artist specializing in drawing, painting, engraving and graphic design. Since 1989, he resides in Mexico City, Mexico.
He studied in the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes “San Alejandro” in Havana, Cuba. During the first five years of the seventies he did studies at the Instituto Superior de Diseño Industrial (I.S.D.I), Havana, Cuba. And since 1976 to 1981 he studied painting in the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), Havana, Cuba.
He was Member of the Taller Experimental de Gráfica (TEG), Havana, Cuba. In 1985 he was Juror of the Salón de Artes Plásticas UNEAC '85, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana, Havana, Cuba. And in 1987 he was Professor at the Taller de Diseño Gráfico. Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, Mexico City, Mexico.

[edit] Individual Exhibitions
Among his must relevant personal exhibitions can be included "Dibujos JAN/Artemio". Habana Libre Hotel 's Gallery, Havana, Cuba, 1971. In 1978 presented "Grabados de Jan. Exposición en Homenaje a la Victoria de Playa Girón", Pequeño Salón, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba. In Mexico he also exhibited his works. In this country he made his personal exhibitions "Tierras, Aguas y Cosmos". Museo Alhondiga de Granaditas, Mexico City, Mexico, 1986, and in 1989, the other show took place in the Museo de Oaxaca, Mexico.

He also formed part of the collective exhibitions, among them we can quote "Exposición Homenaje a Camilo y Che". Galeria L, Havana, Cuba, 1969. He was one of the selected artis for 1980 XIX Premi Internacional de Dibuix Joan Miró Fundació Joan Miró, Centre d'Estudis d'Art Contemporani, Parc de Montjuic, Barcelona, Spain, 1980. In this year he was included in the XIVème Festival International de la Peinture. Château Musée de Cagnes sur Mer, Cagnes sur Mer, France. In 1986 he was part of the second Havanna Biennial Bienal de La Habana , Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba. And in 1988 some of his images were selected to conform "Persuasive Images" , Lehman College Art Gallery, New York, U.S.A.

During his life he had obtained many awards and distintions like 1973 First Prize in Drawing. Concurso Abdala, Ministerio del Interior (MININT), Havana, Cuba, 1973. In 1978 he obtained the Second Prize. Concurso de Carteles de la UNESCO. Derecho de todos los pueblos a la Educación, Paris, France. In 1979 he was recognized with the Special Prize. (Triennial of the Realist Committed Painting), Exhibition Hall of the Union of Bulgarian Painters, Sofia, Bulgaria. And in 1983 he also awarded with Prize. Encuentro de Grabado '83, Sala Tespis, Hotel Habana Libre, Havana, Cuba.

In Cuba his works can be found conform important collections such as Biblioteca Nacional "Jose Marti," Havana, Cuba. In the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba. And formed part of the Taller Experimental de Grafica (TEG), Havana, Cuba.
