Juan Jacobo Fernandez, monk and martyr (Piñor de Cea, 25 of July of 1808 – Damascus 10 of 1860 July) Natural of Piñor de Cea (Carballeda) Province of Orense Spain.
One of the Franciscan martyrs in Damascus by its faith in Christ. Seven of Spanish them and an Austrian, next to three maronitas seglares were assassinated the nine of July, 1860, and beatified October 10, 1926. Juan Jacobo took the Franciscan habit as I bequeath in the convent of Herbón. In his martyrdom he was precipitated from the tile roof of the church. Still alive he prayed to God with fervor that He would accept his sacrifice, until with a knife they killed him.
Since then the devout names of the Manuel Ruiz, Carmelo Volta, Engelberto Kolland, Nicanor Ascanio, Pedro Soler, Nicolás María Alberca, Francisco Pinazo y Juan Jacobo Fernández are venerated in the Altars. Its liturgical celebration is celebrated each 10 of July.
