Juan Diego Catholic High School is a private, Catholic school located in the Salt Lake City suburb of Draper. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City. Founded in 1999, it serves the southern portion of the Salt Lake Valley. Situated upon 54 acres of former farmland, the school is part of the Skaggs Catholic Center which includes St. John the Baptist Middle School, St. John the Baptist Elementary School, Guardian Angel Day Care as well as being home to St. John the Baptist Parish(Salt Lake City church).

Juan Diego Catholic High School is engaged in a partnership of parents, students, faculty and staff. Our mission is to serve God by providing a challenging academic education integrated with Catholic values and morals in developing the whole person - spiritually, intellectually, physically and socially. Since opening in 1999, Juan Diego has been accessible to families of diverse backgrounds, resulting in halls rich in culture, faith, tradition and experience. Each student is challenged to expand the breadth of their knowledge and talents in addition to cultivating a reverence and respect for every human being

Regular Tuition 2008-2009 per student $8,863.00 + fees Qualified Catholic Tuition 2008-2009 per student $7,863.00 + fees Catholic families, upon written approval from their pastor may be eligible for the Qualified Catholic tuition rate.

International Student Information

General Fee $635.00 The general fee includes computer and library fees, yearbook, standardized test, student insurance, Catholic Schools� Office fee, activity card and free admission to all home games and activities. New student applicants are required to pay $175.00 of the general fee with their application which will be credited towards the $635.00 total.

Textbooks Students for the 2008-2009 school year will receive textbooks for general courses without cost. There may be charges for some courses (refer to the 08-09 Course Guide.) Students will receive all textbooks for the various general courses they will be taking. They are responsible for the care of all textbooks during the time that they are in possession of the books. All textbooks must be covered. Students must pay the full cost for any damage to a book beyond normal wear and tear and for any lost or stolen books. Books will be returned to the school prior to the last day of a course or at the close of the academic year.

Athletic/Activity Students who participate in a sport or activity will be asked to pay an activity fee that varies depending on costs. Those students who are unable to pay this fee may apply for assistance. Note: All policies regarding school philosophy, regulations, discipline, dress code along with tuition policy are available to parents in the school handbook.

Financial Tuition Assistance Assistance is available for families in financial. Forms are available at the Juan Diego Catholic High School Office or by calling Ruth Fitzpatrick at (801) 984-7665. Completed financial assistance forms must be accompanied with a copy of your 2007 IRS tax return and returned to FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment (FGAA.) THIS MUST BE DONE FOR EACH SCHOOL YEAR. FGAA will review each application. All required information must accompany the form or it will not be considered. All requested information is kept confidential. Students and parents who submit tuition assistance applications will be informed by Juan Diego Catholic High School of the amount of tuition assistance that the school is able to grant them for the 2008-2009 school year. Applications are due by March 31. Additional information is available upon request.

Tuition, Fee and Contract Policies The following policies apply for delinquent tuition and fees. Only the principal may approve exceptions to these policies. If tuition cannot be paid on time, you must communicate with the principal in writing to prevent enforcement of delinquent tuition policies:

Students may not take quarter or semester examinations with outstanding financial obligations. Students may not participate in graduation ceremonies with deliquent tuition or fees. A late fee of $200.00 will be charged on all late Policy Contracts (due on or before May 31, 2008) All past due tuition and fee accounts will be assessed a late fee of $50.00 per month.

Refunds Students withdrawing on or before August 1st will receive a full refund of tuition and general fees paid less a $175.00 administrative fee. After August 1st , no portion of the contractually agreed amount listed on your 2008-2009 Policy Contract and / or tuition and fees paid will be refunded or waived in the event of absence, withdrawal or dismissal from school unless a Tuition Assurance Policy (TAP) has been purchased. If a policy is purchased, the withdrawing family's / student's financial obligation to the school(s) will be limited to and prorated to the actual number of days attended (days attended /180 days), plus the $175.00 withdrawal administrative fee. General fees are non-refundable after August 1st. Beautiful multi-school 57 acre “State of the Art” campus. Opened in 1999. 2000-seat gym, new artificial turf football/soccer/lacrosse stadium, 5 tennis courts, baseball diamonds, weight room and equestrian trails. 1350-seat auditorium, black-box theater, TV studio, art studios, band/choral rooms and dance studio. Enrollment is currently 780, grades 9-12. Capacity is estimated at 900. Diverse Student Body – 13% Hispanic, 5% Asian, 1% African American, 78% Caucasian. 29% are non-Catholic, 3% International and 42% low-income. Regular full tuition (2008-2009) is $8,863 plus fees, $7,863 for Qualified Catholics and $13,730 for International students. Tuition assistance is given on a needs-basis, made possible by fund raising and contributions from churches, businesses and private benefactors. Catholic families, upon written approval from their pastor, may be eligible for the Qualified Catholic tuition rate.

48 Extracurricular Activities including: National Honor Society, Student Government, Television Production. Juan Diego also offers 17 Sports programs and summer sports camps for enrichment. 5 National Merit Scholars, 14 Semi-Finalists, 2 National Hispanic Scholars since opening. Full Accreditation by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. More than 25 AP, Honors and Concurrent Enrollment courses offered. In 2006, 209, or 59%, of the 352 Juan Diego juniors and seniors, produced a total of 884 college credit hours.

Since 1999, students have contributed over 163,720 hours of community service. Juan Diego students have won the Utah H.S. Art Best of Show, State Drama and Debate competitions, and the State Computer Technology competition. Our students have also received top awards in Mock Trial, Math Contests and Poetry.

Approximately 95% of Juan Diego’s graduates enroll in more than 90 colleges & universities: 80% to 4-yr. college, 37% out of state, and 14% attend 2-yr. College. Since the first graduating class of 2002, more than $13.5 million in renewable college scholarships have been awarded. Located in Draper, the south end of the Salt Lake valley near I-15 and Bangerter Hwys. Easily accessible by Trax, UTA busing and School Shuttle Bus serving Kearns, Midvale, Sandy, Draper and Orem areas. Over 430 networked Mac computers on campus. We currently have 55 teachers on staff. They combine to have almost 400 years of teaching experience and hail from over 40 colleges and universities in 5 different countries. 33 of them have obtained a master’s or doctorate degree. The upcoming 2007 movie Taking Five was filmed on the school grounds. The Disney movies, The Luck of the Irish and Halloweentown High were also filmed here. Before its final show, Everwood was also filmed in the school. The Disney Channel Movie "Dadnapped" and the movie "The Jerk Theory" were also filmed on site.[citation needed]
