Juan Carlos Ortiz Escobar aka Cuchilla (blade) was a Colombian drugdealer prominent member of the Cali Cartel. Ortiz-Escobar is nephew of former Medellin Cartel boss Pablo Escobar. Ortiz-Escobar surrendered to Colombian authorities on March, 1996 to take advantage of a "reduction of sentence" in exchange of turning themselves to justice and declare themselves guilty.[1]
Ortiz-Escobar was also wanted for the murder and dismembering of Daniel Arcila, a witness of the Massacre of Trujillo in which members of the Cali Cartel participated. [2]
After the capture of Norte del Valle Cartel kingpin Juan Carlos Ramirez Abadia on August 7, 2007 Brazilian authorities discovered he had close ties to Ortiz-Escobar.[3] Ramirez-Abadia had been helped by Ortiz-Escobar to establish in Brazil.[4]
Ortiz Escobar was killed in 2002 several weeks after getting out of jail and it is said that Wilber Varela aka "Jabón" was the artist of this crime.
