[edit] Personal life and education

Mouriño Terrazo was born in Madrid, Spain to Carlos Mouriño Atanes a Spanish immigrant to Mexico who is the current president of the Spanish football team Celta de Vigo. Mouriño Terrazo studied economics at the University of Tampa and at the Autonomous University of Campeche, Universidad Autónoma de Campeche.

[edit] Political career

Mouriño has served as local deputy in The Congress of Campeche and as federal deputy during the LVIII Legislature (2000-2003) of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies. In 2003 he unsuccessfully ran to municipal president (mayor) of Campeche.

His recent political career has been linked to Felipe Calderon; when Calderon served as Secretary of Energy Mouriño was designated under-secretary of Energy; during Calderon's presidential campaging he was the coordinator of the campaign first and then under-coordinator when Josefina Vazquez Mota became general-coordinator. On September 2006 he was designated head of Calderon's transition team and then on December 1, 2006 President Calderón appointed him as the Chief of the Presidency's Office.

On January 15, 2008 Mouriño was designated Secretary of the Interior.

[edit] Scandals

Recently Juan Camilo Mouriño has come under public scrutiny due to some contracts that appear to be signed by him as a representative of the companies owned by his father, while he was local deputy in Campeche, and later as an undersecretary of energy (Under then energy secretary Calderón), both government related positions [1]. This is especially worrying because of the implications of corruption, abuse of public power and interest conflict of the now Secretary of the Interior.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador recently showed also two new contracts that show that Juan Camilo could have incurred in abuse of power [2], since it seems he is still actionist of the companies benefitiated with these contracts [3]. The contracts in question can be found in the following links: [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]
