Juan Alberto Melgar Castro (1930 - December 2, 1987) was a Honduran soldier and politician who became President of Honduras from April 22, 1975 to August 7, 1978, when he was overthrown by others in the military. During his rule, the process of land reform slowed because of pressure from land-owning sectors and influential politicians.

Juan Alberto Melgar took power after he had overthrown Oswaldo López because of the bribery scandal of 1975 with United Fruit.

His wife Nora de Melgar was Mayor of Tegucigalpa and she is considered a political leader within the National Party (Partido Nacional).
