First of all, welcome to wikipedia (although I realize you've had the account for a while), and thank you for your contributions. In particular, thanks for getting rid of the "thi is totally wrong don't believe in this" comment. You are absolutely right that if there is a problem with that paper by Smith et al, we need to find more sources, rather than just put in unsubstantiated opinions. If there is a need to comment on this kind of thing, beyond what will fit into the edit summary, the Talk:Soil_pH page is the place for it (accordingly, I have moved your paragraph explaining the removal there).
