[edit] Image:Colby_affidavit_1986.jpg listed for deletion
An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Colby_affidavit_1986.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. [edit] James Sabow/JDSabow evidence 2007
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article James Sabow/JDSabow evidence 2007, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. [edit] AfD nomination of James E. Sabow
An editor has nominated James E. Sabow, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James E. Sabow and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. [edit] Moved page
FYI, I have moved your page on the "evidence" around James Sabow's death to User:JPatrickBedell/JDSabow evidence 2007. You can still work on it, but please don't move it back into mainspace in its current form. You should also have a look at WP:BLP; at a glance, it looks to me like this content may violate that policy (e.g., accusing living people of involvement in murder or in the cover-up of murder would certainly violate it). | Mr. Darcy talk 13:30, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sabow autopsy image on your user page and on Wikimedia Commons
I note that the image on your user page, captioned "Two Cannabis seedlings (upper left) and two Cannabis seeds on an inkjet-printed page" is obviously not as stated and is in fact autopsy photes of Col Sabow. This appears to be an attempt to game the system. I note that you uploaded that image to Wikimedia Commons in the past 24 hours as Image:Sun-Jan-14-02-46-12-UTC-2007.png with the description:
“ | Scan of two cannabis seeds and two cannabis seedlings next to inkjet printed page. Image composed of [text used with permission of author], images available elsewhere on commons.wikimedia.org, and four Cannabis seeds in various stages of germination.
Own work, released to public domain. |
” |
This is obviously false. The images appear to be a scan from a report of some sort, which would fall under copyright protects. I request that you return to Wikimedia Commons and correct the attribution and description. As it stands, it is subject to deletion.
Please delete this image from your user page. See Wikipedia's guidelines on what cannot be on your userpage.

Thank you for your vigilance. That is a document that was produced by myself using a Brother scanner (MFC-5500). Page 16 from http://meixatech.com/COLSABOWHOMICIDE.pdf , used with permisssion. After printing the document page, four cannabis seedlings in various stages of development were vertically aligned along the left side of the page. This is similar to the image on the right, as well. FYI, that is a felony under certain circumstances, and there is timestamping on the image (which is my OWN WORK) to indicate that cannabis cultivation, a felony offense in Orange County, CA, is ongoing. Semper fidelis! JPatrickBedell 00:48, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- As this is from "Investigation of the Death of Colonel James Sabow, USMC" by Bryan R. Burnett, you cannot simply assert permission. See Wikicommons requirements for permissions. Note that Wikimedia Commons has specific policies on what may be uploaded and who can give permission. As you are not Mr. Burnett, you cannot give permission. — ERcheck (talk) 00:58, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
You have the "Cannabis" caption on the Sabow image — [[Image:Sun-Jan-14-02-46-12-UTC-2007.png|thumb|left|Two [[Cannabis]] seedlings (upper left) and two Cannabis seeds on an [[inkjet]]-printed page.]]. As it is also currently considered a copyright violation, please delete it from your user page. — ERcheck (talk) 01:07, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
An editor is not to remove a speedy deletion tag, including copyvio tags from their own work. You may make comments on the related talk page. I noted you made a change to the summary on Wikimedia Commons, but it still describes it as cannabis. — ERcheck (talk) 01:28, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

It says the image is fair-use, from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and licensed under the GFDL. Based on the Naval information I'm guessing Template:PD-USGov would be more appropriate. --Midnightcomm 19:10, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright issue with Image:Sun-Jan-14-02-46-12-UTC-2007.png
Hello. Concerning your contribution, Image:Sun-Jan-14-02-46-12-UTC-2007.png, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://meixatech.com/COLSABOWHOMICIDE.pdf. As a copyright violation, Image:Sun-Jan-14-02-46-12-UTC-2007.png appears to qualify for speedy deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Image:Sun-Jan-14-02-46-12-UTC-2007.png has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message. For text material, please consider rewriting the content and citing the source, provided that it is credible.
If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GFDL, you can comment to that effect on Talk:Image:Sun-Jan-14-02-46-12-UTC-2007.png. If the article or image has already been deleted, but you have a proper release, you can reenter the content at Image:Sun-Jan-14-02-46-12-UTC-2007.png, after describing the release on the talk page. Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia.
As was pointed out to you above, scans, even if you made them yourself, do not release the copyright ownership of the originator of the work. The page is directly from the indicated report and scanning it and posting on Wikipedia violates our copyright policies. Continuing to ignore policy, as in this case of copyrighted images and text may result in your editing priviledges being blocked. In addition, attributing fair use at the same time as claiming it as your work is a non-starter; also, fair use images are not allowed on user pages.
You are requested to delete this image from your user page. Please note that requests about your user page should be considered, not ignored. Wikipedia is a community of editors, and as has been shared with you above, this image and your business cards are counter to Wikipedia guidelines/policy. — ERcheck (talk) 00:17, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Business card on your user page
Earlier, I requested that you remove your business card from your user page. You have not responded. I again respectfully request that you delete the image. I've brought this up on the Administrators' noticeboard. Please feel free to comment on this. — ERcheck (talk) 12:19, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Your requests that I refrain from any measure of self promotion strike me as distinctly similar to the investigation of a Colonel for misusing official resources for transporting his son's golf clubs. I apologize for any offense you may have taken, and certainly the storage and presentation of that image is a use of the wikimedia foundation's resources that may or may not be appropriate. I hope that others see it as appropriate. Thank you for your helpful criticism! JPatrickBedell 12:27, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- If your point with the business card it to provide images of PDF417-encoded information, this can also be done with a sample, mock-up card that does not advertise your business. You could have an <Insert your URL here.> in place of your own, a generic "myemail@email.com" address, a 555 phone number, etc. on the example. If this is all part of your self-declared mission for justice for Col. Sabow, please note that this is counter to Wikipedia's policy on advocacy. Granted that Col. Sabow's death is tragic, Wikipedia is not the place to seek justice. From the links you have provided, it is clear that there is a concerted effort in other forums, such as his brother's website, to seek "justice". That is the proper forum, not Wikipedia. — ERcheck (talk) 12:56, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- There is no business advertised at http://infoeng.org (it redirects to the open-source software site http://infoeng.sourceforge.net), and the words underneath the bar code are simply the "underlying asset" for the information currency that is encoded in the images. Thank you for your suggestion of a generic business card, which I will work to create and add to PDF417. I apologize for appearing biased. My intention is to effect change in authority and authoritative sources of knowledge that reflect truth and principle. User:Looper5920 observed that "Officiallty Colonel Sabow committed suicide and no one on this site is in a position to contest the findings.... pretty simple." Perhaps it's not so simple - I expect that technology will make it much more difficult and dangerous to conduct and officially conceal murder. What an exciting time! Thanks again for your feedback. JPatrickBedell 13:22, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Pointing out a problem
Your recent comment on the AFD of Kevin Gaines (police) ([1]), accusing Col. Sabow's superiors of murder is potentially libel. No matter how strongly you feel about this case, libel is prohibited on Wikipedia. As you have commented a number of times, you are interested in "help" and hearing what is inappropriate. Please take this to heart. — ERcheck (talk) 13:05, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- Thank you very much for your help. My desire to see the matter of Col. Sabow's death brought before a court once again (to say nothing of Southern Air Transport and its associates such as William Barr, the US Attorney General on January 22, 1991) should not lead me to violate wikipedia's policies. I have edited the text to reflect your concerns and welcome further feedback. Thank you. JPatrickBedell 14:02, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Images
The problem is that unless you actually took these pictures or can provide a source where the originator released these GFDL, you cannot license them as such on Wikipedia. Right now I don't see anything that indicates you are the creator or any GFDL release, so for the time being they should not appear in the article while this is sorted out.--Isotope23 19:03, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- Or provide verification that these are derivative works of images that were released into the public domain or with a Creative Commons license.--Isotope23 19:06, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- The rationale for their usage is presented in each imagepage. It appears that your edits removing photographic evidence from a contentious matter, based on baseless claims of copyright violation are unfortunately mistaken, and detract from the encyclopedic value of wikipedia. Ignorance is not NPOV, and the deletion of material evidence relevant to assessing the value of the article is not helpful. JPatrickBedell 19:13, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK, but before you start hurling around accusations, this article are listed as licensed under the GFDL, and while there is a fair use rationale, there is nothing that confirms that these images are really released under the GFDL. Anyone can add that tag to the image, but that doesn't automatically make it so. Unless you took these pictures, OR the person who did create them released them under GFDL and you have an email or etc proving this that you can provide to the Wikimedia foundation, OR these are derivative works by you of images that were released under Creative Commons or Public Domain any you can point me to a website, etc that shows they were released as such (or again have the creator contact Wikimedia), the license you have listed on the images is incorrect. My claim is not baseless, there is no evidence of correct licensing and as the uploader who listed this license it is your responsibility to provide it. As this is the case it is the best interest of the project not to display these images until it is clear they are licensed correctly.--Isotope23 20:05, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- These images are all a part of a report on Meixa Tech. The same "evidence"/citations can be included by including that report as the cited reference. — ERcheck (talk) 00:21, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- The images that were referenced are high-quality originals as opposed to the low-resolution versions included in http://meixatech.com/COLSABOWHOMICDE.pdf , as you are surely aware. JPatrickBedell 00:39, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Unless you are the copyright holder of these images, you cannot license them as you choose. Please see Wikipedia:Copyrights for more information. Jkelly 22:22, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Article references
One requirement for articles in Wikipedia is verifiability — and as such, including the sources for information is important. Even if you are using public domain text in creating articles, please include a specific citation to the reference. See Wikipedia:Citing sources.
You've added a few new biographies of military personnel recently, noting that source material was public domain, but you omitted the specific references. Please, add those references. Thanks. — ERcheck (talk) 16:17, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for pointing out my mistake. I have corrected the error and included the appropriate references. I have also added a {{{Url}}} parameter to the Template:PD-USGov-Military-Navy and Template:PD-USGov-Military-Army used in the articles, but I'm not sure how to handle conditionals in templates yet. Thanks for your help. JPatrickBedell 22:38, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Milintel-stub
Hi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created a new stub type. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, on the template page for new Wikiprojects and in many other places on Wikipedia, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.
In the case of your new stub type, militqary stubs are split by country and era - having a separate military intelligence stub may well cause problems for this sorting scheme. What's more the template is not named according to stub naming guidelines, and there's no guarantee that the stub type would reach the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type. Your new stub type is currently listed for deletion or renaming at WP:SFD - please feel free to make any comments there as to any reason why this stub type should be retained. And please, in future, propose new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 01:22, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New military templates, stub categories, etc
Rather than creating on your own a series of new templates and stub categories related to military topics, I suggest that you engage the Military history WikiProject in discussion first. There is an extensive, ongoing discussion/effort to standardize categories, etc. New templates are also discussed and created — with discussions to help ensure that they meet the global needs of all militaries, rather than being focused on a particular country's military structure. — ERcheck (talk) 15:32, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!
Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.

[edit] February 15, 2007
I went through as you suggested, the article of Roger E. Combs, Peter D. Williams and Tony L. Cothron, breaking the articles up into semi-appropriate sections and adding citation tags where a reference may be needed. For some of them I added a WPBio box on their discussion page as well. ALl three are in desperate need of a life biography in complement to their career biographies. That may be why in the case of Peter D. Williams he was nominated for an article deletion. My edits are not particularly outstanding, but they should provide you with a good springboard. --Ozgod 06:42, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Hey, thank you for the comments and no problem helping you out! When creating a new article on Wikipedia, especially a biography, you need to always make sure to break it down into sections, cite sources, and get to the main point as to why they are notable enough to be on Wikipedia. With William G. Thrasher you had a good amount of biography, which detailed his career and a notable part of his life, just that the article needed a decent amount of formatting. Some people will most likely tag the articles for deletion, but if you make them presentable and they can stand on their own, it should not be too much of fight. Just make sure that you are not dealing with just their career life, but their actual personal life as well. Just leave me a message if you need help with anything. --Ozgod 12:33, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image tagging for Image:Airplanepictures 1937 44579442.jpeg
Thanks for uploading Image:Airplanepictures 1937 44579442.jpeg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Article referencing
You have been adding the official military bio as a citation/footnote after one of the initial sentences in the copied bios you've been using. However, the entire bio is from the site. That seems to have lead to a number of {{citation needed}} tags in a recent article. When you are copying from a public domain site, if you would put the site in the "References" section, as opposed to as a citation of a single sentence, I think it would avoid getting an article marked up, with a read wondering the source of the rest of the article. Take a look at other established bios for examples. — ERcheck (talk) 00:42, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Meltmycone
I have strong reason to believe that you are using a second account, User:Meltmycone, as a sockpuppet account to give the impression of a false consensus on Talk:Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. If this is the case, then please stop immediately. Using sockpuppets to skew discussions on talk pages is a blockable offense, but if I am correct and you stop editing from multiple accounts, I'll be more than happy to assume good faith and let you start fresh. | Mr. Darcy talk 05:03, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Please stop. If you continue to vandalise Wikipedia, as you did to Dick Cheney, you will be blocked from editing. Bsroiaadn 03:26, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- This warning and the previous revert comment related to the following text, which has otherwise been expunged from Wikipedia. Is wikipedia grooming Cheney for his future Nobel Peace Prize? In any case, it's reassuring to have so many wikipedians spring to the defense of the otherwise defenseless Vice President. JPatrickBedell 18:52, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- You have only included a small excerpt of the text you included both here and on the article. It was not the Nobel Peace Prize comment that is being referred to. — ERcheck (talk) 11:41, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Re: Deleted image of Dick Cheney: The image in question was not an image of the particular incident you were describing. Wikipedia is not a tabloid where questionably sourced images can be posted in vague relation to allegations. When this was removed, you added the image with the caption "Cheney relaxing at an unofficial event" — definitely not to illustrate an historic event detailed at any point in the artticle. In addition, you posted it to another article as an illustration of general physical characteristic. This most certainly is not have been covered under "fair use". [edit] Military-related public domain templates
Patrick, I noticed that you created Template:PDT-USGov-Military-Army and Template:PDT-USGov-Military-Navy and that the templates are now orphaned. You seemed to reach a compromise with editors on the pages they were used in. Are the template necessary anymore? If not, would you consider tagging them with {{db-author}} or would you mind listing them at WP:TFD? Best, Iamunknown 05:52, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Taqi kouchner jackson ceku clark 1999.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Taqi kouchner jackson ceku clark 1999.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:33, 14 February 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Staxringold talkcontribs 14:14, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
