Jozefina Topalli
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jozefina Çoba Topalli (born 1963) is an Albanian politician and the current Chairman of the Parliament of Albania since September 3, 2005 and vice-president of the Democratic Party of Albania.
Jozefina was born in Shkodra and has been a member of the national legislature since 1997. She graduated from Luigj Gurakuqi University in Shkodra with double-major in mathematics and law. She subsequently studied international relations at the University of Padova in Italy and acquired a master's from the University of Tirana in public administration.
In 2005, Topalli was elected president of the unicameral legislature (Assembly) of Albania, the highest position a woman has ever held in Albanian politics.
Her tenure as Assembly chair has been filled with controversy. She has been seen as an exceptionally politicized chair. While a skilled operator on the local political level, she has been criticized for failing to observe the rules of the Assembly. She also has engaged in many personal attacks, leading to a considerable decline in popularity.
