Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics (J. Phys.B) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published semi-monthly by the Institute of Physics (IOP) in the United Kingdom. It was formed in 1968 from the division of the earlier title, Physical Society (London) Proceedings.

The journal has published research in atomic, molecular physics, scattering and ionization studies. In the last decade the journal has expanded its scope into new areas such as ultracold matter, quantum optics, quantum information, intense laser fields and ultrafast science. Atomic, molecular and optical physics provide insights not only into the behavior of atoms and molecules, but also contribute to the understanding of quantum theory, condensed matter and the control and manipulation of light and matter at the smallest scales.

In 2006, it published 581 papers. It has an impact factor of 2.024, placing it 12th among the 31 titles in the Atomic, Molecular, and Chemical Physics category of Journal Citation Reports, and 9th among the 55 titles in the Optics category.

The editor-in-chief is Jan Michael Rost at MPI for the Physics of Complex Systems, Dresden, Germany.

It is indexed in INSPEC Information Services, Chemical Abstracts, ISI (Science Citation Index, SciSearch, ISI Alerting Services, Current Contents/Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences), Article@INIST, and Engineering Index/Ei Compendex.

It is a subscription journal, but all papers are freely accessible for the first 30 days after publication at the journal web site.
