The Journal was established in 1960; the current editor is Bruno L. Z. Nachtergaele, professor at University of California, Davis.
Editorial policy for the journal explicitly specifies that papers should be about the application of mathematics to problems in physics and the development of mathematical methods suitable for such applications and for the formulation of physical theories. The editorial policy states:
