The Journal of Law & Politics was founded in 1982 by students at the University of Virginia School of Law. Among the faculty advisers supporting the Journal were then-professor and current Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The Journal publishes scholarly articles and essays from academic authors as well as practicing lawyers. In 2005 the Journal hosted a major symposium entitled "Democracy in Action?: The Law and Politics of Local Government."
