[edit] Macau
- Hi? thanks for your great contribution in the article of Macau. I am personally not sure if all references from that article are in correct MoS formats, if not , would you please help me to fix them ASAP? Due to lack of sources in many paragraphs, I will add more citations in different sections in order to make sure this article is fully referenced so that I can re-nominate this good article to FA as soon as possible. In addition, I would like you to reduce the size of the whole article from 72kb to not more than 60kb(more ideal). If you find out any extra & unnecesary information from that article, would you please remove them and put them to the related sub-articles or other articles?? in case you would like to reply me, you can write me over here or on my talk-page. Thanks a lot!!!! Coloane (talk) 23:59, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hi? I already reduced the size of the article, Macau. Further size reduction is "a must" before putting this article into FA candidate (size below 50kb is situable) for nomination. Please refer to the talk page and check the FA comment (article milestone) and you will see that those people voted: oppose for this article because of the size simply. If you have time, I wish you could reduce more. I will combine the section of "administrative division into the section of "government and politics". Hong Kong was promoted to FA in 2005 and at that time its size was simply 45kb. Coloane (talk) 13:25, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I reduced the size of Macau's article from 72kbs to 54kbs at the moment. 4 more kbs are necessary to reduce to make sure it will not over 50kbs. But I need to have a break now. So if you can help, you can reduce more. However, references are required to add more in this article. I will come back later and fix them. Very soon, I will nominate this article one more time until I have this article reached an FA standard. Coloane (talk) 19:41, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your efforts. Now I think the size is prefect. The next step is probably to give citations in order to make sure this article is fully referenced. Then I will re-nominate this article again immediately over the FA candidate page. Coloane (talk) 23:05, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think that the article needs more references. It is not enough yet (i.e. not yet fully referenced). Grammar should be strictly checked to make sure it has no more run-on sentenses, no mistakes anymore in tenses and subject-verb agreements. British/Am English should be in consistence. And also we have to make sure it has no more tedious and excessive information in that article. Coloane (talk) 13:14, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- For the reference from the capital city of Macau (i.e. none), I removed the reference because it may increase the size of that article. And also I removed the table from demography to make sure it is ot over 52kbs. Let's the article pass FA first, then we may add back whatever we what. Coloane (talk) 13:44, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Can you nominate this article on FAC page so that I can vote? Coloane (talk) 11:53, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
You need to put it on the page of Wikipedia:Featured article candidates also!! Coloane (talk) 13:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
OK! thanks!! I will vote Support an hout later!! Coloane (talk) 13:23, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Please address the problem raised by nominator(s) from the FAC page. I re-consider that I will vote Support a bit later after nominating from other people (just couple days later I will vote). I just want to show my vote being more objective. :) Coloane (talk) 23:31, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
::Josuechan, just ignore Miyokan's comment. And please vote "Oppose" to make sure his article Russia fail and leave the page of FAC immediately. His article is almost failed!!!! just give him a last bullet. I will come back and check it tomorrow!! Coloane (talk) 01:20, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Josuechan, I sincerely hope for your sake that you do not follow Coloane's petty direction as such a dirty tactic will be exposed and get you into trouble.--Miyokan (talk) 01:58, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
:Josuechan! don't listen to him. He rudely erased my comment everywhere, and wrote down statement of personal attacks in my talk page. And now he attacked our nomination with groundless reasons. It is very obvious who is dirty. I hope you can make a good choice. Talk to you tomorrow!!! Coloane (talk) 02:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
if you feel interested in maintaining the portal Macau, you can go ahead. The "News" section always need to be updated. You can simply go to Google News and type search: Macau. All news related to Macau from different sources will come out. You can choose one of the most interesting and add it on Portal:Macau. Coloane (talk) 12:51, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Just ignore the comment made by Caniago. Probably 2004 tsunami may affect him somewhat. I donated some for Indonesian when I was in New York, United States.Coloane (talk) 21:23, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes Sir!! Coloane (talk) 16:49, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Tony1
you should prepare for this user user:Tony1 coming. In most case he will surely vote oppose and try to give you very superficial reasons like incorrect tenses, vocabs, etc in which they can be fixed up in just a few minutes, no matter how much work you do/did on this article. Even you try to address all his comment, he won't change his vote. I am not very optimistic this time. At the moment it seems to me someone voted oppose and gave us a very stupid question (i.e. transportation/immigration) on Macau FAC. You had better address them. If you want to write and give some supplemental info of Macau transportation, please refer to this web site: [1] or [2] for transportation and [3] for entering into Macau. Hopefully you can convince him for changing his objection. You can simply edit/write down these info briefly under the section of economy. Thanks! Coloane (talk) 21:26, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

So I think Negraal won't come back here and re-consider his vote, will he? your contribution to Chinese History is also remarkable and important. Thanks for your diligence and contribution. Coloane (talk) 14:16, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Grand Secretariat
Nice work! The article is off to a fresh start.--Pericles of AthensTalk 22:06, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

- Awesome! I'm so glad Ming Dynasty passed. The article took a lot of tweaking before it was truly FA worthy, but it is an outstanding article now. Thanks for your help, and in creating these new articles! Someone had to do it eventually. I will give you my help as soon as possible, in between classes, as the last semester of my senior year in college has just begun today!--Pericles of AthensTalk 13:12, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] hope you can do well
Just wanna let you know I am going to retire from Wiki on 1st Feb 2008 as I will be promoted to become a senior consultant in neurosurgery here and I don't think I will be able to have time to contribute and follow up Macau-related articles anymore including portal. Hopefully you can help me to maintain portal Macau, as I told you before I am sure there will be no one would like to go there and update. I just did some cosmetic work on the page of Wikiproject Macau. Go there and take a look. Green frame symbolises the flag colour of Macau and brown colour in background signifies Zuejiang river. Please also update the Wikiproject Macau from time to time. Good Luck! Coloane (talk) 23:56, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, since Coloane left Wikipedia, Portal:Hong Kong was no longer maintained. Further, Coloane nominated the portal at Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Hong Kong as featured portal. There are some concerns which require attention. It will be appreciated if you can fix it for him. OhanaUnitedTalk page 16:55, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] I may come back
I thought my new office didn't have my computer connected with internet. I may come back and contribute to Macau articles later. It is not a big deal for those joe-blogg people imposed ban or block on my account, it always happens in wiki. I just get used to it. By the way, please remove the section of healthcare & correct some mistakes and then put the article Macau back on FAC soonest. Thanks!!! Coloane (talk) 07:42, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] About Luzon Empire
I'm perplexed about how this user got away with it (again, this is Wikipedia for you), since the user has been adding these information to articles like Luzon and Battle of Yamen for a month or so now. I'm not sure if it is vandalism, but in my opinion, it is not mainstream history. It just seems like original research to me. I've been fixing some minor edits with the article, but I'm not sure what to do about the situation (or to contact the editor or now). Do you have any idea?--Balthazarduju (talk) 19:50, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Ao Man Long
hi? please add the Govt. of Macau will confiscate his property not less than 258 million Patacas including all asset in England. There is no more chance for him to appeal as the decision has been made by the Court of Final Appeal. Thanks! (in case I don't see you try to maintain the portal, I will try to come back and edit. It also means I couldn't retire as nobody would like to do so.) Coloane (talk) 19:18, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Reply
There was no clear consensus on a finishing date, I did examine that (it was suggested by a couple of contributors but it didn't seem central to the agreement that emerged). I'm trying to avoid a situation where it can simply be "waited out" only to see problematic behaviour resume. He does have supporters and I don't doubt they'll raise a motion at the appropriate time to end the topic ban, and a decision can be come to at that point as to whether that's an appropriate course of action or not. If he acts in accordance with behaviour guidelines and doesn't get personal about stuff, people will then say "Yeah, he's learned his lesson" and that will be the end of it. Orderinchaos 07:33, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- As I said, it depends on the situation on the ground - it seems senseless to impose an arbitrary deadline when that may not be the best approach. Certainly if in June a motion is raised to lift it on AN/I, the comments made by some users in this AN/I in January could be used as a supporting argument. Further, the ban only affects one very limited section of the encyclopaedia (and, more importantly, no content topics - only admin ones) where significant disruption has already occurred, and there is very, very wide scope to edit elsewhere where it has not occurred. It's not a permanent ban, the entire point is that the community set it and the community at a later point gets to unset it - I myself would argue for raising the ban if I see consistent evidence of good behaviour and good faith. Orderinchaos 07:53, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] I told you
I told you! save your time! what you wrote to Alice is in vain as Alice's account was blocked because of sockpuppet. Anyway, every thing is odd in the world. Again, thanks for your defense and support. Prepare for your Chinese new year, I will have a great party for sure next week. Wish you have a good health and study! Coloane (talk) 09:43, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, I didn't know Alice was blocked... the world is surely a very odd place. Let me fight a little longer; I'm usually very stubborn about doing what I think is right. And yes, happy Chinese new year!! Josuechan (talk) 11:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Logistic regression
Logistic regression is frequently used in medical research. At the moment this article needs to brush up a bit. Hopefully you can sometimes also pay attention to it besides of Multivariate normal distribution. Thanks! Coloane (talk) 19:47, 1 February 2008 (UTC) PS: Please also pay attention to ANOVA as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coloane (talk • contribs) 20:02, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] 葡币
I am curious as to why you placed a "fact" notice against the assertion that the pataca is locally known as the 葡幣. I had never heard the term until I went and stayed in Macau for an extended length of time. It's definitely used. I can only think that:
- 1. You live in Macau but have never heard the term.
- 2. You don't like the term so you want a reason to get rid of it.
- 3. You are by nature a stickler for providing references, and even if you know something to be a fact you require a source.
- 4. You are very concerned about perceptions of Wikipedia's reliability, and to forestall any attacks you expect everything to be properly sourced.
- 5. You like adding fact notices because it stirs people up.
- 6. Other possible motivations.
I don't know which one applies, but my feeling is that the crusade for the provision of sources and against "original research", if applied out of hand, would result in the disappearance of 80% of Wikipedia. (Yes, I made the 80% figure up, don't bother looking for a source). Asking for citations is one of the most pusillanimous tactics of Wikipedia wreckers, ranking up there with POV-pushing. The problem is that all kinds of ridiculous statements can be made by reference to some kind of "source", and all kinds of factual statements can be forced out of Wikipedia by a rigid insistence on sources. The subjectivity introduced by selective insertion or deletion of information through an appeal to the "objective standard" of sources is a far more insidious and dangerous way of destroying Wikipedia than allowing editors to balance the bias out. After all, Stalin killed millions, and I'm sure he always made sure he had some "source" or "justification" ready for what he did.
Personally, I find much more damage is caused to Wikipedia by (1) poor editing, including the deletion and insertion of factoids at inappropriate places, the destruction of logical flow, and the unintentional or intentional stranding of information so that it turns into floating junk and (2) vandalism and inadequate or misguided efforts to restore vandalised parts. Failure to cite sources for every minuscule statement is the least destructive of editing processes, and a rigid insistence on supplying sources is usually nothing more than a weapon for POV warriors and destroyers of painstakingly created content.
Perhaps I'm wrong for bringing this up with you; it's a policy problem with Wikipedia itself. But I tend to find the random and widespread use of citation tags quite curious. That is why I'm posting this question on your talk page.

- Thanks for your reply. Obviously I should take it up with the GA reviewer! :)

- I think that I myself nominated this article on GAC last year. Well, I believe that you should provide sources for "pataca" is locally known as the 葡幣. Your reasons for not providing sources are not sufficient. Please refer to WP:L, it states: The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. "Verifiable" in this context means that readers should be able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source. Editors should provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is challenged or is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. I know you lived in Macao for some time but it doesn't mean that your own experience is verifiable. Please refer to WP:OR, it states: Citing sources and avoiding original research are inextricably linked: to demonstrate that you are not presenting original research, you must cite reliable sources that provide information directly related to the topic of the article, and that directly support the information as it is presented. [edit] About Portal HK
Hi? I am very happy because Portal:Hong Kong was promoted to FA recently. This is the portal I nominated. I hope you can improve some thing in Portal:Macau and nominate it. Of course I would like to see Macau becoming an FA article soonest. So please don't ignore my wish and opinion. Again, happy new year!!! ;) Coloane (talk) 22:22, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
PS: You can also refer to [4] and figure out the search volume, news reference volume of Macau from all regions in certain periods. Languages, cities and regions were also given. If you want to compare other matters, you can simply type commas and thus different colours will be shown in the graph. Coloane (talk) 23:31, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Congrats on the FA Portal Hong Kong! I'll certainly go back to Macau and renominate it. But at the moment I'm just tired of it after the intense editing last month. I think you should come back and work on the Portal Macau, as I don't really know what to do with it. Anyway, enjoy the food and happy Chinese New Year!! Josuechan (talk) 03:07, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- Yeah, you are right. I think that I will remove the tag of retirement next week as there is no one would like to maintain the Portal:Macau and come back to help you to improve the article Macau if you re-nominate it. So it will help you to reduce your burden a bit. At the moment I personally don't think that Portal:Macau fits the criteria of WP:WIAFPo. It means much edit/work to improve the article is required before re-nomination. Coloane (talk) 04:31, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Nomination - I think that you had better nominate Macau as soon as possible. Personally I guess user:Miyokan will nominate Russia very soon. I don't want to see these two articles appearing on the same page of FAC again. It is a good idea to nominate Macau at this time in order to avoid the embarrassing moment later. :) Coloane (talk) 10:13, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:East and west (book).jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:East and west (book).jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 01:39, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] French Version
I am going to concentrate on editing the article Macau in French Wikipedia probably next week after Wednesday. It seems there are still lot of works need to be improved over there. I can also help you to edit Macau in English Wikipedia if you want. Just leave a message on my talk page anytime you want. Please also pay attention to Macau in Cantonese Wikipedia. I checked the article Macau over there; it seems to me that it is OK to nominate as either GA or FA standard. Coloane (talk) 06:38, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- Please speed up the process of nomination ASAP. It seems to me that my task is to revert the topic but nothing else. Coloane (talk) 19:57, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Restoration
Hi Josuechan, how are you? I am going to restore the tag of retirement since I didn't see the article Macau currently appearing on the FAC(last time I removed the tag was mainly to help you in case of re-nomination of Macau, nothing else). Pls notify me on my talk page in case you are going to re-nominate later. I expanded some sections over there and I think you already read it. I am not interested in editing at this time due to too many wikistalking, false accusation, retaliation and harrassment by these Admin and users: user:Orderinchaos, user:huaiwei, user:Caniago, user:Merbabu, etc. I feel quite sick of them and I want to concentrate on my work at the moment. In case I would like to edit wikipedia, mostly I will appear in French Wikipedia in where it is more civilised, clean and calm. English wikipedia (esp. Admin.) spent more than 50% of time on childish game playing, straw man argument, retaliation and I don't want to get involved in it. Thanks for your reading message here!! :) Coloane (talk) 15:27, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Clean up need !!
Hello, can you clean up and possibly (I encourage you to...) merge the following article :
- Three Lords and Nine Ministers (main article)
- Three Lords = Three_Excellencies (2 questions in the talk page)
- Nine_Ministers
I started to translate them into french, but I stopped when I noticede the need rewritting and merging. If you can manage this this week, that would be great. Regards Yug 06:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- It might not be a good idea to merge the articles because as I see it, Three Lords and Nine Ministers was more like a form of government (as opposed to, say, Three Departments and Six Ministries) than the collection of governmental divisions. It was my intention to write a decent article on this form of government, but I was caught up with other things. I can expand the articles in the weeks to come. But it wouldn't be anything quick. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Armchair economist.jpg}
Thank you for uploading Image:Armchair economist.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
